Hey Washingtonians! Have not been around lately due to opening a new catering company here in town PLUS working feverishly on my new chicken "mansion" (pics should be up by July 4th weekend).

I am looking to adopt in AND adopt out a cockeral or two. I have two Ancona cockerals and one (what I think is an) Ameracauna cockeral that I want to re-home. I am re-homing them for two reasons...1) I want to breed a few chickens of my own, and I am looking for a roo to pass on the dark brown egg laying gene and 2) the Ancona roos are a bit too "frisky" for my girls. My one Anocona roo is beautiful, and fairly gentle with me. He is my favorite and although I hate to see him go, I am willing to give him up to someone who would like him.

I am also interested in a well mannered Welsummer, Barnevelder, or Dominque (sp)? cockeral/roo to add to my flock of 23 girls. I would prefer not to ship, so someone local would be great!

Thanks!
Chris

That's actually what I told my husband! I'm weaning myself from the horses (we're down to just 5) but with hay going for $250/ton here...I may not have much of a choice.

Hi there Herbandteas!! Your just up the road from us(in fact I just remodelled a house there on Crescent Vlly RD). What are the Pekin Ducks like? Years ago I had a small flock of Aracaunas. The eggs were always very interesting blue/green, and if I remember correctly, small.
I am on here trying to figure out a floor plan for the new house I am going to build my chicks.....currently they're in a 4'x6' but they're growing quite rapidly and I plan to keep 10-12 layers so they will need a good sized shed(I have a nicefloor that's 10'x16' to work with, all 2''x6'' joists).

We are on 5+acres and finally got rid of the rentor that lived on the lower property, so that's becomming 'The Farm.' Now I just need a couple of goats!

Hope you guys have had a nice weekend!

Chicken fever in Port Orchard. Kitsap county.

I had chickens last year that I got from my folks' farm in Newport (Pend Orelle county), but a series of events wiped them out before my 4 girls even had a chance to start laying! I spent the entire winter and spring looking for hens. I got 4 this month. 2 blue cochins, 1 (what I think is) Australorp named Phoebe, and one (what I was told is an EE, but in that case is NOT laying) named Brunhilda. My parents were planing on sending their old mixed roo to the soup pot (they're wanting an EE roo), but I begged for him to live with us (he's the reason my DH relented and let us get chickens in the first place!) He will be here in 2 weeks with them.

I am still looking for more hens. I have been posting for Welsummers, RIR, and such. My DH and I build a little coop last year, but after seeing the coop our new girls lived in, he's going to build one of those... it was a LOG CABIN. (albeit, a mini one. LOL) It's good to see him excited about chickens. He's even mentioned getting ducks, goats, and *gasp!* llamas. I'm sold on anything small... but llamas?

I'd rather have chickens.

Pekin ducks are more meat birds but I fell in love with this pair and hope they have some ducklings for me to raise for meat and pets. I am going to be keeping their eggs till my chicks start laying then hope to have an incubator so I can hatch ducklings.

They are all white with orange beaks and legs and pretty good sized for almost 11 weeks old.

Hi Everyone!
I'm in University Place just west of Tacoma but it might as well be the same thing. We're planning on moving to NC in a few months though. I have always wanted chickens and my kids want them bad. I am learning so much from just lurking here.

Funny you'd say that...
On another thread I was saying I wanted more of a pet chicken and mine are just wanting nothing to do with me..... course their only 10 weeks old... do you want to add more to your flock or do you just want grown birds?
