LOL I said that a few pages ago for folks that are going to the Monroe show, but nobody said anything, so I figured there was no interest....

Sorry- I think it's a great idea if we can get it together! I plan on going to Monroe. Who wants to bring Tudy?

Why doesn't all of us attending bring our own Tudy, and print out a extra for those that have no printer capibilites ??
Or we can corner employees & passersby to get in the photo shoot with a Tudy as well!
I am telling ya, we will win!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can breed mother to son and father to daughter, it's when you start breeding full sisters and brothers that things get yucky...

I just made 2 nasty roos into frozen chicken products today!! LOL Their names were Psycho, and Nugget!

Psycho and Nugget. When I was in 4-H...I used to name my market hogs names like : HAMlet, or Pork Chop, although my champion hog (one year) was named Jinx as he was quite the cuss to work with. A steer I once took was T-bone, etc. You get the idea.

Yeah, Nugget, cuz he's buff, so Gold Nugget, Butt Nugget cuz he was a jerk, and Chicken Nugget cuz we were gonna eat him! LOL

Just so you know if you try for a roo from your stock pick eggs from the nice sweet docile hen.
Man hater traits are normally passed from hen to chick.

Very interesting....did not know this. Our poor little Roo - his name is Tyson - not for the fighter but for the frozen chicken products, which he will become a frozen chicken product if he does not shape up. He is so pretty though. He gets jealous when we love up his girls, give them treats. The girls will come running to us and it makes him mad. LOL. So after reading my post and then your response....I got to thinking...Ican't keep one of my own chicks anyway for a roo as they would all be related, well at least the one hen would be his mother. All my "ladies" are very tame and nice, if the "nice" gene is passed by mommy then we would get a nice roo out of them.

Or just let me know if you're looking for a super sweet roo....I will probably have one or two available pretty soon. My GLC's comb is so badly frostbitten he looks like a PQ Wyandotte comb now and my LS roo's toes look like Vienna Sausages.

When I buy shipped eggs, I unwrap them in a cool place as not to collect condensation, and candle them, and set them in an egg carton.
I prefer the paper egg cartons so the egg gets plenty of air.
You are looking for addles & torn air cells at this time.
Scrambled eggs or big bubbles that roll from one end to the other are not gonna hatch.
Air cells that look kinda iffy, but stay in the big end, KEEP.
Then set them after they have warmed to room temp, and allow at least 12 hrs for this to happen.
At dat 18, remove the eggs from the turner, put in an egg carton, and go where it is dark, working quickly, and candle.
Dark eggs keep, smell each one, if it is rotten, you will smell it, look for cracks, and leaking too, toss every leaky smelly egg.
Any clear eggs, toss. Keep the dark ones with a nice air cells on the big end.
I highly encourage smelling !
Notice, this is 2 candlings.
The good ones go right into the hatching incubator, ASAP so as not to chill or shrink wrap the babies.
I think Cloverleaf does the same.
And Rainwolf, and Zgoatlady.
Some shipped eggs arrive hopelessly scrambled.
But I do not, ever, keep candling the babies, over & over.
Let them be !!

Well, all is well here, the Wheaten ameraucana babies still unhatched (3) are dragging...and hopefully hatch, so the blue Ams going into lockdown went into a second hatching incubator..and we are now compling the new coop materials list so going to home depoe for bldg materials any day................Javas are big and need their own coop, and the W&BW Ameraucanas will have the other side of the 8x8 coop, each breed gets 4x8 minimum.
Glad the flu is over, just a 36 hour thing and my over stimulated immunal system kicks applesauce !!!!!!!!!!
Now, off to collect the last eggs of the day.
The blue copper marans hen afore mentioned, probably laid 3 or 4
