Or just let me know if you're looking for a super sweet roo....I will probably have one or two available pretty soon. My GLC's comb is so badly frostbitten he looks like a PQ Wyandotte comb now and my LS roo's toes look like Vienna Sausages.
Heather...this is a great idea. Has to be friendly...we don't care about a missing toe or a wrong shaped comb...we just want friendly. I just made the comment that Tyson was a S.O.B (ya, know the meaning). I used this type of verbiage as my DD is in the room. She says a "Sob"...what is a Sob? Um....a kind of car.....
Hey, Heather, since I have you on here....Do you know anyone who would "process" chickens if I were to raise for meat? I would not mind helping...it is just that DH does not have the "stomach" for it and I would love to be able to raise my own meat. For me alone to do it would be just too much work...I don't think I can do it alone. I don't know if I could do the actual "kill", but once dead...it is only a piece of meat to me and I have no problems and I am not squimish.
Well, next fall I should be able to part with Barnabas and/or my LS roo. Do you just need one roo? Oh and my Creve roo too...as I'm getting in lines into my flock and I don't want them to be too closely related....
My FIL would do the killing, no problem. He kills all of the ducks/geese/turkeys/chickens/goats. I've never processed a chicken before but my MIL has, many times. They also do goats. I have been toying with the idea of getting meaties myself this year...but I'm not sure that being 7,8,9 months pregnant and messing with chicken processing would be my thing. Unless I planned it for getting them in July and processing in September...I would be willing to help you and/or even go in with you on an order of meaties--I just don't have anywhere to put them at this time. My MIL usually just rips the breasts out of her older chickens and won't ever do meaties again--but that's because she has a hard time reading & understanding directions--like restricting feed intake.
The last couple she butchered she skins, too....and I know when they tried Muscovy, they just ripped out the breasts.

Okay, Heather. The DH and DD and I went and looked at your web site (I know you have nothing available right now) and I still want a NICE bird....but the DH and DD really like the "hippy Chicken" (AKA: Bantam Houdan) and the Coronation Sussex....I love the Cochins (large and small)...so if when you go to cull and you have a really nice personality Roo...please keep us in mind (of any type).
I am sorry for your Roo that has been hurt (comb and toes). I hope that he is okay. BTW, I love the Wyandottes too and not sure what a LS is...but I hope he is okay.
Also, I saw your post from yesterday....I hope that DH was a bit nicer about the truck being stuck. I hope that you are doing well. How are you? How is the baby bump coming along? Icky snow this morning....but at least it is melted now.
Edited as I did not want to seem calus.
I might have some Houdan chicks this spring--I need to hatch out a lot more...or I could give you some eggs with the promise of me getting any whites that hatch and at least one mottled pullet out of the hatch (the most close to the ABA standard) because that's really all I need.
LS = Light Sussex
We went to Breadline & did the buffet this morning--I LOVE their French toast!
The baby bump is coming along....I'm definitely "showing" but it's not really noticeable with a big sweater or my down coat on.

Why doesn't all of us attending bring our own Tudy, and print out a extra for those that have no printer capibilites ??
Or we can corner employees & passersby to get in the photo shoot with a Tudy as well!
I am telling ya, we will win!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds good just tell me what I need t do! I will have my kids(6) with me if that helps. Not totally sure I understand the contest.
Sorry I guess my kids won't help. They don't meet the age requirement.

We all may need to read the contest rules again. I believe everyone in the photo needs to be over the age of 13, and all subjects must be touching Tudy. That sounds odd, but you get the idea. There is also some requirement to "tag" everyone in the photo on Facebook, or have them tag themselves. We may need to take individual photos with everyone holding their own Tudy. Again, that sounds weird. Poor Tudy sounds like she's in for some mangling. Anyway, if you're interested in entering the contest, let's review the rules and requirements so we get it right.

Here's a link to the broiler processing process. It is kind of graphic....but not too bad.
Dang, I need one of those pluckers! I heard that's the worst part!
Thanks for asking CL - I'm feeling a lot better. I haven't taken any pain pills since the A.M. as I don't like how fuzzy they make my head feel. just my neck and shoulder hurt today, but if I relax and don't try and do too much, it is not bad. I tried to reach a bag of chocolate drizzled kettle corn that I was hiding from the kids, and found I can't tip my head high enough to see the upper shelves,so the kettle corn will have to wait. That's OK, I don't need it anyways. Kind of like when I get dental work now - I can't open my mouth afterwards - no pain, I just can't open my mouth up enough to use silverware, so after 3 days of liquid diet. I usually pick up my perscription of Soma, and the next day I can open my mouth again. Strange - never had that problem till I hit 40, and then things just stopped working as they used to.
I can't wait to see all the chicks you all are hatching! I left the brooder lid open this afternoon for a while and watched what the chicks would do. The Barnevelders could care less, but all the Orpingtons hopped up on the feeders and stretched their necks to scope things out. The two Lav. Orps both hopped out of the brooder; one just perched on the top, and the other hopped up the staircase, pooping on nearly every step, Luckily they are wood so they cleaned up easy. The Orps are very mellow, especially the biggest one. I'm pretty sure one of the black orps will be a roo; he's got a big comb, and is always watching everyone and everything. The other birds all seem more interested in food.

I could be wrong but it looks like the Monroe pic could only be used by one person. Sounds like each person submitting a pic must be from a different location. Am I wrong?
