I like the painted window box, so much more practical than a real window box.

Do you raise ducks in a residential area? I've been so tempted to get a few ducklings but I'm just not sure how they'd do in the city. Curious as to how they do

Just thought I'd ask you since you seem like a duck enthusiast

Yes, I'm in a residential area, and there is not suppose to be any "farm animals" in our ROA...but we bought our house from the lady that was running the ROA. And she is LONG GONE!!

I house my 3 ducks in a duck tractor, like a chicken tractor, and roll it around the back yard.

My Indian runners are very quiet ducks from Holderreads Farm......the hatchery duck is another story...but still, they don't make any noise until I try to catch them. Then they yell apple sauce!!
They don't fly and will eat any creepy crawly near them...even the ones under ground.
They prefer to farrage for their own food, but I feed them breakfast.
I have a creek, but they only get a tubof water to play in. Lost one duck to the creek...no more.

The 2 in the back are Cumberland Blues and the one in front is penciled.
I also have one duckling, a fawn & white and hopefully some more coming soon.
I am hatching some babies if you are intersted. Was going to craigs list them anyways.

Here is their new smaller house...partially complete. It is only 4 X 5 X 4 and can house up to 6 quacks cause they only sleep there at night.

I paint, but not that good. It is actually a ventilation hole, covered with vinyl coated wire and to block some of the view from the ducks I put some plastic plants in a 2 inch deep bottomless window box made with cedar fence board. They don't like windows that much. Skittish and slightly paranoid birds in the dark.
When I complete the whole thing, I'll post some more pictures, but I need to make t-shirts this week.

Well I have sad news.

I'm not going to be able to make it to the show. I got a call from my Uncle this morning, and my mom fell off a ladder last night and has a displaced Tibial plateau fracture. Basically a really really bad broken leg with a very messed up knee. They are waiting for swelling to go down and will decide on Monday which surgery to do, the big fix which means plates and screws internal, but if the swelling is not gone down enough they will put on a temp external splint of steel that is screwed in. I am planning to fly out there (Massachuesetts) this weekend and plan to stay at least a week although she will need a lot of care. She will have to stay with my Aunt & Uncle for months because she lives in a 2nd floor condo with no elevator. And they are swamped with work right now. Such bad timing for everyone involved.

So. I really really need someone close by (RedReiner or Monicas???) to please come get Chickielady's table that is meant for Cloverleaf to borrow at the show for the Ameraucana Club table. I also have Chickielady's raffle items. Ideally if they could be picked up today, tomorrow, or Saturday............that would be best. Please PM or Email me if you can do this for me. Oh, and I was going to provide the BYC sign and table............if someone else can do that too.

Aw man, just realized it's DH's b-day on Tuesday and I really want to fly out there before they do surgery.

And I have chicks hatching Sunday........

And I know I have chicks/eggs and a Lav Ameraucana cockerel promised to some folks. I will have to reschedule stuff after I get back.

And I am so going to miss meeting everyone at the show!

Please send positive thoughts/prayers for a quick recovery for my mom!

Thanks.

So sorry about the news of your mom and you won't make it to the show. Hope the surgery goes well and she makes a quick recovery. Hugs, and have a safe trip.

Yodaddy, Welcome and you are close to us. We are near Carney Lake. Our address is Gig Harbor but we are actually on the Key Peninsula near the Kitsap line.
