Most people say a month. Even with good care, he's got whatever germs are present at the breeder's place, which your girls aren't exposed to yet.

Do you raise ducks in a residential area? I've been so tempted to get a few ducklings but I'm just not sure how they'd do in the city. Curious as to how they do

Just thought I'd ask you since you seem like a duck enthusiast

Yes, I'm in a residential area, and there is not suppose to be any "farm animals" in our ROA...but we bought our house from the lady that was running the ROA. And she is LONG GONE!!

I house my 3 ducks in a duck tractor, like a chicken tractor, and roll it around the back yard. (ignore the dog crate..it was an extra nest for the winter)

My Indian runners are very quiet ducks from Holderreads Farm......the hatchery duck is another story...but still, they don't make any noise until I try to catch them. Then they yell apple sauce!!
They don't fly and will eat any creepy crawly near them...even the ones under ground.
They prefer to farrage for their own food, but I feed them breakfast.
I have a creek, but they only get a tubof water to play in. Lost one duck to the creek...no more.

The 2 in the back are Cumberland Blues and the one in front is penciled.
I also have one duckling, a fawn & white and hopefully some more coming soon.
I am hatching some babies if you are intersted. I also have some show quality duckling form the Holderread Farm coming in April.
Was going to craigs list most my the ducklings anyways.
Max is 6 for me.

Here is their new smaller house...partially complete. It is only 4 X 5 X 4 and can house up to 6 quacks cause they only sleep there at night.

Cool! Thank you for all the information

You have some pretty duckies! I think I will hatch some when I'm ready for em

If this roo has something my girls don't have or the other way around they have something he does not have, won't they still have germs after 1 week or 1 month?
Do they get rid of germs while in quarantine?

You are correct. The purpose of quarantine, as I understand it, is simply for an observation period. If during that time you notice symptoms of the bird being ill, you are catching it before all your other birds are exposed to it.

As far as quarantine goes, I like the idea of taking one of the birds from your own flock that you are willing to sacrifice, and putting them in with the new bird during quarantine. If the new bird has something your own flock is succeptable too, you will soon know.

Thanks, all your answers help. The only birds I am willing to sacrifice are roosters, two rooster won't last very long. We have 8 hen and now 11 roosters.

Why did I get another rooster. He is not a brother to my Ameraucana hens plus we are getting rid of 7 roos.
