Okay, someone explain this to me: I just took a goody tray out to the ladies. I let them out to free range as it is nearly 50 degrees...wonderfully warm.

Hannah, my bantam cochin, came along running with the BR ladies. My Roo, stayed behind. The roo made some clucking noise (he hates it when his ladies chase after one of us - he gets jealous). Hannah, bantam cochin, perked her head up when he was clucking and made this really weird screech sound. She is always so quiet and mellow. She did it twice. Head straight up, eyes very alert...and mouth WIDE open screech. She looked around, went back to eating the remains of my mac salad. What is up with this? Is the warm weather sending her into some kind of broody state and this is the start of her wanting to? Or what. She is not ill. They all ate the last of the mac salad, then went back to where the roo was hanging out. Any idea what the loud noise she made was about? I am not worried about her being sick....just curious why my quietest girl is suddenly the loudest.

Broodytood, I grew up in chehalis : ) Just moved actually! My parents still live there and always have. I don't miss the rain : )

The grew up in California till I was a teen, been here ever since. The rain still get on my nerves. The grey all the time is hard to deal with sometimes. So come Feb. when I'm startin to get the "grey blues", I just think about the chicks that are ready in March and that usually helps me keep my sanity!

So you must have moved to somewhere sunny, lucky you!
Oh duh, Goldendale. You get the sun but are you buried in snow in the winter?

I'm hatching some but doubt you'd want them for the show... they are mix buff orp over white leghorn
and if the hatch tonight a couple buff orp over RIR

My appenzeller spitzhauben should arrive tomorrow or the next day. She didn't have enough so she's sending some NN eggs. Do you want them? I've no desire for them.

Yes, I'm in a residential area, and there is not suppose to be any "farm animals" in our ROA...but we bought our house from the lady that was running the ROA. And she is LONG GONE!!

I house my 3 ducks in a duck tractor, like a chicken tractor, and roll it around the back yard. (ignore the dog crate..it was an extra nest for the winter)

My Indian runners are very quiet ducks from Holderreads Farm......the hatchery duck is another story...but still, they don't make any noise until I try to catch them. Then they yell apple sauce!!
They don't fly and will eat any creepy crawly near them...even the ones under ground.
They prefer to farrage for their own food, but I feed them breakfast.
I have a creek, but they only get a tubof water to play in. Lost one duck to the creek...no more.

The 2 in the back are Cumberland Blues and the one in front is penciled.
I also have one duckling, a fawn & white and hopefully some more coming soon.
I am hatching some babies if you are intersted. I also have some show quality duckling form the Holderread Farm coming in April.
Was going to craigs list most my the ducklings anyways.
Max is 6 for me.

Here is their new smaller house...partially complete. It is only 4 X 5 X 4 and can house up to 6 quacks cause they only sleep there at night.

Cool! Thank you for all the information
