FosterRoo I just loved reading the Betty McDonald books. I always wondered where it was on the peninsula. I grew up on Vashon Island. So we spent a lot of time on the Olympic Peninsula. I have a pretty good idea where the road is. I also loved Betty's other book The Onion in the Stew, which was set on Vashon Island. She explained in one of the books where she went after she walked out on her first husband. I was able to get all of what I hope is all of her books thru the Enumclaw library.

We had a great weekend. We were able to modify the nesting boxes in the coop. We hadn't put a top over the nesting boxes so they were roosting over the and pooping in most of the nesting boxes. We have 8 nesting boxes that open like drawers on the front of the coup. We put a lid over the boxes with a roost, and the girls are very happy with the new arrangement. Then today we took our small truck canopy that has been setting in a backyard corner for years. DH made a stand for it that is about two feet tall. We put the canopy on the stand in the chicken run, and now the girls have a little bit of a dry spot in their run.

I think after the girls got over their surprise and got accustom to the noise of the rain falling on the aluminum canopy, they are much happier outside. They love the pumpkin that TomatoLady so kindly gave us. Well goodnight all.

Good morning all!

Hope everyone weathered last nights storm ok. Our power went out early this morning, I was waited to hook up the generator to see if it would come back on. That and I was warm and snug in my bed and didn't really feel like getting up just then. It was probably around 4:45. So I waited, and wouldn't you know it after listening to all of my neighbors turn on their generators, the power came back on at around 6:45, just before I needed to get up. YAY! Sounds like we are in for some stormy weather for the next couple of days. Batten down the chickens!

Have a wonderful day!

Why do I always find out last when there was a storm??? Oh yeah, good sleepies

Maybe my little house just sits low enough that the wires don't get so interrupted.. we are nestled nicely in the trees. I think we had an outage during the worst of the snow last year.

Looking out the window though, I'm regretting leaving the ducks locked in the garage today, it was just soooo nasty when I left that I didn't want them out. Hope they and the chicks don't terrorize each other too much. On an even bigger tangent, my back room seems so empty without little peeps

Sorry, rambling, bored, waiting for computers. Not really adding anything to the discussion, but I'm here anyway.

You have to hook up your generator???where is Hubby???? Is your set up so all you have to do is turn a switch or pull a lever??? You have to go outside to hook mine up. But it is big enough to run EVERYTHING in my litttle place. Wife doesn't have a clue about any of that stuff! She is a city girl. Won't even go out to collect eggs!!!
I'm surprised that you lost power and we didn't. We are usually one of the first, here on the hill. Last night was my night off and I laided in bed and justed listen to it pour down rain all night. When I got up this morning it wasn't raining so I let the flock run for about an hour and a half
Time to walk the dog now!
Have a great day everyone !!!!!!!!!!

Nyrial

Wish I could sleep like you !!! I get 3 to 4 hours a day thats all , just can't sleep. I've had all kinds of tests. Runs in the family. I even hear it when my wife puts the key in the front door:(

Just a friendly reminder to all who use a generator during power outages. PLEASE make sure that your house is disconnected from your utility source before you connect the generator. This can be done with a transfer switch or with the main circuit breaker. Many people don't know but your generator can and will feed back to the power lines and can injure or kill others.

Good drugs.... I randomly got insomnia earlier this year, then finally broke down and said something till the doc. I was up till 1 in the morning, then up at 4:30 with my alarm.. you have to watch the whole "dependency" though I have a very addictive personality, so I just feed the addiction part with chickens instead

I try to not take it on the weekends so that I prove to myself that I don't *need* it. Usually not an issue after being home with the kids all day though!

Poor DH has it worse, he's home with them while I'm in class. Such a good man. And he does laundry

The Washington Feather Fanciers (WFF) WinterBrisk will be at the Chehalis Fairgrounds on December 12th & 13th. I don't have anymore information on it yet but just emailed Josh (WFF President) today asking him when we can expect the show flier to come out.

God Bless,

We have had kind of a nice day today. Just a few sprinkles and a little bit of rain. This after a horrible storm yesterday and overnight that has left some of the outlying areas without power today.
My friend and mom had to get me a sump pump to get some of the water out of my backyard so the chickens wouldn't have to swim to their feeder. We had spread about 3 inches of sand out, but will have to get the rest of it out before long. I think I am going to need to use the full 13 tons to keep us somewhat high and dry this year.
Today I just opened the coop door and let them wander around. I think there is enough going on in the yard (greens, worms and what not to keep them happy all day. I have had to herd them back into the yard when they came close to my outer fence. I wish I had a farm. Living in town makes for a pretty small playpen for my feathered friends. But I can dream and hope, maybe some day.

Most of you are farther along in our weather shadow that this will hopefully give you a pleasant night. But it looks like this is going to keep happening for a few days. Think Spring!

Nyrial my husband does laundry too, now that the kids are out on their own.

You got love a man that does laundry. I'm wishing you the best on our physics final. My daughter was smart enough to be able pass that class too. I am not that smart though.

The girl child needs three more classes at the UofW to finally get her BA degree. I am praying for that mile stone.
We homeschooled for a lot of years. I was a bit apprehensive about how they would do in college. Both of the kidlets did very well in the running start program. The Girl got a bit distracted by a man, so instead of 2 years ahead of everyone she is 4 years behind on graduating with a 4 year degree. The Boy went on to work. I keep telling people that he is WAY to happy with his job. The kid is really good at his job.

We have a transfer box that we hook up to. Just have to turn all of the switches from utility to Generator. It runs almost everything in the house. My husband has made sure I can hook it up so that if the power goes out when he isn't home I can do it. And it has happend a few times.
