Those birds in cages by the door were pulled off the show for being sick.
One (I was told) was very gouty, and one was sick with maybe MG ?
Not sure...there were ALOT of sick birds there..I have mine on Denigard right now just in case he was exposed.

I only saw three sick birds there, two were the ones that were isolated. A third I believe was removed once the judge was told,.

According to recent information, MG is in almost all (about 80%) of domestic non-commercial flocks.

What were you considering sick? Some birds have a certain look (ie the older male wyandottes and standard cochins get really fleshy around the eyes, and silkies always shake heads on occasion- I don't know if it is due to the crest being in their eyes or what).

I was considering the sick ones the ones with pale combs, swollen, puffy eyes (I breed cochins so I know the difference between a nice Asiatic head and a sick one). Yes, the polish shake their heads a lot but these were mostly Wyandottes, Ameracaunas and a few RIRs I saw doing that. There were a few who's eyes were completely shut, ruffled feathers, hunched over...gaping mouths....didn't look good. My birds are all in quarantine and will be for at least 3 weeks. This is the part of showing I don't like...

That should not be a problem. All I would need is how you would like it laid out, And a good pic or drawing. I will do my best to make it breed correct.

Just make sure you make it have RED earlobes!

Just kidding....I'll see what I can come up with....

Thank you. *blush* I certainly expect some update pictures as that blue pullet blooms! She'll be competitive, and I sold her to you hoping I can get you bitten by the show bug.

I think you'll adore those little wellies, they are such curious little buggers, and such reliable layers! I was shocked at how many exhibitors had them as layers because a) pretty and big eggs and b) reliable as all get out and c) pretty! For instance, Dottie Truedson who shows Porcelain d'uccles, Buff silkies, and bantam cochins has a flock. She was staying at the same place I was, so we had a couple conversations about the wellies.

I can't believe Sheryl's frizzles didn't fly out the door! She and Joe are always in heavy competition for best cochin and frizzle, and Joe frequently wins best of show (as he did at Monroe) and won Ch FL at the HUGE Ohio National. Sheryl has some of the best stock out there. I usually HATE frizzles, but I love hers, and her blue cochin bantams are just the cutest things. No more bantams for me, though.

Oooh, and did you see Kristina Korfus's orpingtons? Oh, and the beautiful buff Jean brought? Isn't that just the prettiest shade of buff? Did you catch a peek at some of Heather's moderns and OEG (from Canada, not RFF)? There were some cute little bantam orloffs there that Erhard was impressed with, and did you catch his standard orloffs? Some exhibitors sure give everyone else a lot to live up to. Although they may have larger shows on the East Coast, we have plenty of National caliber birds and exhibitors in the Northwest, that's for DARN sure, we just aren't as population-dense and compact. Much harder to get everyone in one spot.

I think most all roosters have long skinny feathers around their necks and down their backs. I have some roosters that crow until nine months old. I just bought a rooster and on the way home he was crowing up a storm, at home he crowed for one day and has not crowed since.

how do you set up your duck brooders?? That's one reason I am waiting on starting my ducks in the incubator right now.. both of my chick brooders are full of chicklets!

Here is my brooder.
It is just a big ice chest from my garage, with the small lid popped out & a light put on top. I change the bulb's wattage as the birdie gets older.
I have sand on the bottom. Great for when the ducks play with the water, the box still stays dry.
But MO lives in our house..."free range duck".

Yes I am surprised they don't have someone checking birds at the door....or a vet on scene to pull ones that are obviously sick.

BTW--I meant to come and find you and ask about making me one of those big signs like the duck one you did...
big_smile.png

I am sure if someone donated money to pay a vet, they would gladly do it. With paying for rental and ads and everything else that goes along with putting on a show, they are lucky to have enough to be able to put on a show the next time!

MMmmm curry. I wasn't able to bring anything to share since I had traveled the day before and my car was stuffed to the gills (I carried all my chickens as well as my goose and sale birds in a tiny honda) so I didn't want to impose and eat. It sounds delicious. It was nice to meet many of you, yet it was difficult because a) I can't sit still at shows and b) I had all the exhibitor buddies to catch up with as well and keep an eye on show/sale birds/answer calls. Shows are always fun, busy, and an exhausting time for me. I snuck out for half an hour at one point because I just needed a little break from all the noise and commotion. So nice to meet those who I had the luck to run into/talk to.

This is not always true when it comes to gene expression. Think about sex-linked traits. Both male and female can have the same genotype, but different phenotypes.
