Yes it is....she's only a miles closer than I am....I'm 340 miles (one way). I think we need to have a Central Washington chicken show!

Even in Wenatchee wouldn't be too bad...or Moses Lake.

Maybe at the Chelan County Fairgrounds? I told mom there should be a show in Central WA. It could be an unoffical one where people judge chickens and have popular vote and like in 4-H there can be an open (all ages) judging contest (i was in horse 4-H so i assume they have similar concepts of learning, it was neat seeing those kids at monroe judging defective chickens, eggs, meat and feed types) on different categories that way non-standard breeds (like turken and showgirls), projects, hybrids/ mutts and backyard pets can also participate. They need the money. Or we can try the Town Toyota Center... lol.... doubt they would allow a chicken show but would most likely love the prestiege of a dog show.... then again there already is some really large AKC dog show in Wenatchee every summer. (people with the rarest and coolest dogs stop at the fruitstand. i have even met an offspring of Montana the golden retreiver male who totally sweeped all AKC Major shows for a few years in a row a few years ago...)....

WOW by the time I get caught up everybody's goin to bed !!!! Hey at Monroe somebody ask if I had any more pigs. Maybe Cloverleaf ??? So who ever it was, are you interested in the little one or a little bigger or maybe a trivett or garden stake?
Yes if Zgoatlady isn't going to make it. I would be more than happy to try to sell some of her stuff, as long as it is all priced. If somebody can do a relay to me or to my booth at the show. I am trying a few new things that I hope will go good. Since yesterday I have got 16 items made so at this rate hopefully I will have enough to make it worth while. We will coop in early friday afternoon. I may also need to bribe somebody to hold down the fort for a few while I go take care of DW's lunch. Any body wanna volunteer to be bribed???

For the doggies ....... here is something that I have always had good luck with. And I know some may dissagree so lets hear good reason why. Whenever I get cherry wood for firewood I always peel the bark, let it dry then give it to the dogs. They love it as when it dries it gets real springy and will kee most dogs occupied for hours.

Talked to Papa Chickielady today and he said that CL very sick. They think it is food related. Her computer is very ill too and is at the doctor they hope should be home tomorrow (wed).

For the new peep near Dallesport looking for marans. You really need to come to the show in Stevenson so we can help to further your addiction.

hey.

question: if one wanted to save money and buy bulk grain to feed the chickens. which grain would it be? wheat or oats? (i am assuming stopping buying the layer feed or mixing in a high bulk grain/ layer ratio. i have done the math. i go through 2 50lb bags of layer a week plus a 50lb bag of scratch a week. they free range as well.
in my area the 50lb bag of layer feed is $14.99 and scratch is $12.99. i have been trolling craigslist all over the state and have found clean oats at $200 per ton.

i have read that during the summer many people switch to oats for their laying hens because it is a cooler feed in hot weather.

2000Lb oats / $200 per ton = $10/ LB
50LB chicken chow / $14 per bag= $3LB

2000LB/ 50LB= 40bags of 50LB

40 bags of 50lb feed at $200ton vs. 40bags of 50LB feed at $14 each = $560.

would it be better to buy oats in bulk and to stop or supplelment some layer feed? because i think i did my math right and feeding them a diet of oats + freeranging costs me 200.... feeding 2 bags of chicken chow a week costs more.

should i order the oats?
