Good morning. I am sorry I did not get to talk to you more....My brain was actually spinning the other day. I was on overload of all the information I was getting...all the new people...and all the questions I wanted to ask. Definite overload. I need to go to a show by myself (without DH or kid to drag me around) so that I can relax and sit and talk with people. And I can go and see chicnens calmly.

Well, I am preparing to have 18 3-5 year olds coming to the vet office for a tour. I am off to finish getting ready. You have a good day.

Morning all.

OK to get the whole thing purple is not real easy and blue is even tougher. But I will give it a try. Would you like the small roo or the larger one? Also would you like it as a trivett, with a hole to hang it or just plain. Sorry I don't think I can do this in garden stake. Please let know and I will try to get one done and hold it for you to look at the show.

IMHO first thing I would do is cutthe scratch way back. It is nothing but candy and does no good. It will reduce the protien value of your other feed. I have been told by a very knowledgeable source who is a breeder. If you are feeding less than 20% protien then no scratch. According to Jim if you feed scratch with a 16% it will drop the protien too low for good growth and egg production. Myself I don't think I would go with straight oats (or any other single). Also keep in mind that your birds will get a lot more out of any ground grain than they will out of the same thing whole.

That's not good. I sure hope CL and her computer get to feeling better real soon! I miss reading all her posts (but on the other hand, it does not takeas long to catch up each day! - not a good trade-off though.)

I knew something didn't look right but due to the format it was already in my little pea brain completely missed it!!!

Thanks CGG.

Hmm, I think someone who does the awesome work you do doesn't have a pea brain! I didn't even read the rest. I saw $3 a lb for a bag of feed and thought no way. That would be $150. I am constantly calculating what these chickens are costing me. Thats why it stood out.

Monroe was a small show, and a one-day show. Stevenson is technically a two-day show, with the awards not being given until Sunday- it's jsut too much to fit in one day. While you can contact the show chair to see if you can coop in on Sat, I don't think that, at this show, they will let you coop out on Sat (increased security due to APA semiannual and silkie national).

Back at ya Jen, and good morning to all! Isn't it a beautiful morning?

I'm feeling encouraged on a sunny day like today. Just got a call from a professional carpenter that DH knows from the Elks who asked if he could come over and help out with the coop to finish it up in a hurry. He suggested maybe we could just barter for some services or time in the future. I am SO running this past DH when he gets back. DH has been grousing about installing the hardware cloth in the run, and how he doesn't know how to do this or that and maybe I should just be standing out there with him telling him how to do things because he "doesn't have time to look at plans".

His buddy has been taking a lot of short cuts that are leaving gaping holes in the construction so I'm kind of ready to thank him and have him stay home. The other guy I was paying was a roofer and his job is finished. I just need someone in here to finish the run and the inside details and install my new chicken door and we're almost in business.
My house chickens and I would be so grateful to have the job finished. Just need to convince DH this is the right choice.

In the meantime, DH is enjoying the new girls. He smiles whenever he stops and visits with them - it's pretty cute.
