I was reading a thread the other day where someone put their chick in a gallon ice cream container, with a margarine sized dish of baking soda, then poured vinegar over the baking soda and closed the lid. It creates a gas, someone help me here - and it puts the chick to sleep. I don't know if I can find that thread now. Perhaps someone else knows what I'm talking about and can explain it more clearly.
I thought maybe I'd saved it for future reference but can't seem to find it now...
Sorry Broody - I'm hurting right along with you.

Thanks. To all who helped out with ideas, the deed is done. It was almost like the chick only had muscles on the top side of it's neck and not on the underside. It's was was looking up so far that it's head was lying on its back. Poor thing. I also thought I was doing a good thing by having a paper towel in the hatcher to give the chicks good footing but one ended up spraddled. So after I bandaided it's legs, I cut some of that foamy mesh drawer liner stuff to fit in the bottom of the hatcher. Seems like I'm getting a whirlwind course in things that can go wrong!
Thanks everybody for the support!

If it isn't normal soon, I would cull it...if I waited that long. It's never easy, especially with chicks, but the most humane way is a sharp pair of shears. I always lay down a plastic bag, put a paper towel down on top of that, lay the chick down, shears in place, and lay a paper towel over the top of everything so I don't have to SEE myself do it, just make sure your shears are in good position before you cover everything, give a good hard snip, roll everything up and out it goes.

If you can not do the shear thing (not sure I can yet)....get a box and there is a gas you can use...I would have to ask DH...something in a can (brake cleaner?). CR - help out here. It is a guy thing to know. DH has used it when we had a gerbil that was dying and we wanted to put it down easily. They would just go to sleep. Or you can fix it to the exhaust of the car....I don't think I can chop off heads yet.

Just cleaned ot out again! I was wondering why it still showed 85% capacity when the box was empty .... just discovered their's a "Sent Mail" box that also needed to be deleted! Duuuh. Fixed it.

I have my husband hook the truck up to a box and they fall alseep. My girl friend puts them in a bag and sprays something in it.. Cant rmember what it is. sorry..

See, I should have read more...I just offered the same info.

BTW: Zgoatlady: I just got our very first EGG from the beautiful BCMs that I got from you. Emily andl Amelia. They are doing great...starting to fit in with the BR bitties (although they are still being a bit bullied). Everyone is out Free ranging right now. Matilda (baby I got from CL) thinks she is a big girl so I let her out with the free ranging bitties and Emily and Amelia. Poor Tilly....everyone keeps chasing her off...even Emily and Ameilia are not interested in some teenager hanging around them.

Good to know! DD's favorite place is Chipotle. She orders the burrito and then peels off the tortilla (technically a salad at that point, but she won't order anything called a salad - sounds too heathful). We have a TT in town.

No spring sun here...has been raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock....sorry, that is a bit vivid, but all my birds look like drowned rats. It is, actually, not raining this second. I swear that Omak is having a Monsoon season. This is insane.

Blueducklings, Scott is Patriot Farms. Email him or call I guess would be good.

Sounds like Id rather take a good whack to the head than be gassed with household chemicals that may or may not work. Keyboard cleaner is probably compressed co2 maybe? Brake celaner is several compounds together as far as I know and shouldnt be used in confined areas but we do anyway.

Thanks for more options! Don't know if I can get past the crunch that the shears will make.

I don't even like it when I have to crunch a bug.

This does not always work.. I would rather go snip with shears and be done in a second then have issues other ways... but thats just my personal opinion

RW:
Who is Scott?
Is he the guy from Patriot farms or is that someone else??
I don't think I should call Patriot farms if he is not Scott.

Yes Scott is the owner of patriot farms.

Ok I need some help. I set my eggs on the 8th at 11pm, so does that mean lock down starts on the 26th at 11pm or on the 27th at 11pm???

And when I do place them into lock down that means I fill both water chanels, and take the incubator off the rocker cradle, right?

Thanks guys!
