They are quoting a covenants that was written in the early 80's by people that no longer live here. It says you can't have 'livestock' but you can have domesticated animals.
I didn't even know this thing existed until i got the call. I knew the neighbor (old retired guy who has nothing better to do than cause problems) didn't want foul in the neighbor hood so i got rid of my runner ducks for Muscovy (no quacking). I have gotten rid of every rooster so i don't cause problems. I have done EVERYTHING i could do to not have a problem come of this. He didn't even know i had these guys (had fowl here for 3 years) until one of the other neighbors told him.

I am just so sick over this.

I am planning on coming to the secret meeting, unless I somehow forget between now and then.

I would think that it should be kind of hard to forget, but these days I never count on anything about my memory.

I guess it depends on how it is written. Id try to stick it out. Today lots of peole have small flocks, and in the city of Seattle we can have 8 domestic fowl but no roosters. Good luck with your cause. Id be inclined to hang in there til the end before I got rid of my birds. Theres a lot of cities now that allow poultry and Im not talking about small towns, Seattle, Atlanta, and a lot of others. Good luck with it. What are your plans? To fight it or just give in and buy watery grocery store eggs?

At this point we just skin the birds. I also de-bone most of the meat. I would like to have a few birds with skin on them, but I still haven't figured out how to scald them outside. I need to come up with a turkey fryer base and then I could use the hot water bath canner.

Ohh, we are SOO fighting it. I just don't want to find myself with 24 hours to find a place for my birds. I have posted a couple adds on craigslist for the 'extra' birds i don't mind parting with. I have raised all of my birds from a couple days old and it hurts to think of losing them.

We are looking into selling the house asap in case we don't win so that we can still keep the birds but that is rough in this economy. *sigh*
We are a military family and i have carted chickens, ducks, cats, birds, reptiles, and even my fish from base to base. I have never given up on my animals and
it makes me SO ANGRY that someone can cause such pain because he wants to.

Edited to add: I shuddered when i thought of going back to grocery store eggs.

I bought a large pot from walmart. I think it is used for large soup batches and or frying (maybe canning). I boil the water inside and my husband brings it outside and i dunk the bird. I can scald two chickens/ducks before the water needs to be heated up again.
