Im pretty sure my last Marans egg is shrink wrapped in the shell... Pipped yesterday around noon, started to zip, then got rolled around by other chicks and rested with the pip/zip hole down. Membrane around the hole is completely dry. When should I help him out? Ive already upped the humidity after removing the chicks like CL sudgested... But now I am at a loss, and this little one is still fighting to get out, with little progress. Im worried as it has already been over 24 hours...

speaking of chatty, I got a promotion at work, so now with the adjusted hours I'm probably going to be going to the Stevenson show! nothing to show just to visit.

Did you squirt it with 100*F water?

Not directly on the egg, I was worried that to much water would get into the 1/2" zip... Would a wet q-tip do the trick, instead of directly spraying the egg?

I would talk to it and see if it reacts to your voice. Keep the humidity HIGH. I had to do that for Curley cause she was the last one and boy did she have thick skin.

I peeled out the membrane & soaked it good, them put it back in the hatch box and talked to it a bit and it will finish breakfast & pop out.
Good Luck.

Oh yeah this one is a fighter. kicking poking its beak all around, screaming in the egg... I just think its stuck, but dont want to intervien to soon... Or to late for that matter.

Are these bulbs you can put in table lamps? or do you need the 'shop light' fixture for the tubes?

There are compact fluorescnet bulbs that screw into any light bulb outlet that are rated 6500K and labeled as daylight. I think the GE bulb is a daylight 100 watt bulb in a box of one.

Ok I was right the little one was shrink wrapped, but I was able to carefully chip away the shell, dampen the membrane and slowly peel away the layers... She is now sitting back in the incubator to dry.

I think that was more nerve wracking than the last week of being preggo... So glad its over and the little one is ok.

Thanks blueducklings!
