Woo Hoo! After 8 years of living here, we finally got a doorbell!!! DH hung the bell CR made a few minutes ago. When the sun comes up, I'll take a photo. My dog that is going deaf can hear it too, so I got my dog-bell back as well

She malfunctioned about 2 yrs ago. DH liked living as a hermit, but I kind of tired of "We stopped by this weekend, but no one answered the door."

DH and I celebrated our 17th anniversary yesterday...long time to be picking up someone else's socks and fighting over the remote with. I totally believe the saying "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus". I no longer complain about how he washes dishes or how he loads the dishwasher...I am just thankful he has done it. Gotta love him, if I didn't who would love me...and I ain't easy to get along with. I kinda feel sory for the guy.

Congrats on 17 years!

they are hard to tell apart to me, but, I was told the blacks would have black toes,. the blue would have pink toes at hatch. I have two with black toes, I think they are black lol

what is toe punch?

Toe punching is a safe way of marking a chick- you can mark which breeding pen it came out of, what sex you think it is, what color was at hatching, etc. It's basically a tiny punch to make a little circle in the skin between the toes.

Chicken branding.

How well do these things work?! Any of you use them? How do they work? I've always had to pluck by hand

55% humidity is too low. Can you up it? Is there a tray you can fill up that hasn;t yet have water in it?
Or you can stick a sponge in a container. It needs to go up to at least 65% then 75% for hatch. (day 25)
Temp is good at 102*F. It needs to come down half a degree a day from day 25 till 100.5*F for hatch.
Do you know how to tweek it? Or you can just drop it 1*F and call it that at day 25.
Some folks hatch and incubate at the same temp.

Trial & error.
I got 2 silvers out of my hatch this week. 15 eggs. One blue & cream died tonight. It was weak and didn't drink enough. Didn't want to eat or drink. Nomatter how I tried tocoax it.
I've changed the food for my ducks from Layer food to breeder food. Hope they do better next time. So far still no eggs. One went into molt.

Maybe they don't like the new food and just didn't eat. I don't blame them. It smells like fish food. The koi floating kind. Maybe I should feed the koi too. Maybe they will lay for me.

T Hi, the styro bators fluctuate if you have them in a room thats near a heater vent. It will be more stable in a room that has no vents or drafts, at least mine did. Also air temp fluctuates but the egg temperature, because it has mass, doesnt fluctuate as much as the air does. Also humidity can play a small part in temp as well because higher humidity air has slightly more mass than dry waterless air. Because it fluctuates from 99 to 100 doesnt mean that the eggs arent staying pretty close to 99.5 (or whatever temp yuo are aiming for).
