BEI is Black East Indies, and Auburn is like a leap skip and a hop away! I am actually in covington just down hwy 18.

See if you can work something out with FlyingMonkeyPoop LOL

My silkies are going broody UGH!

TerrasCritters,
Black East Indies! I love those! I was told they like to fly and would not do good in my situtaton, so I got my crested blue swedish instead.
Luckily my latest setting hen is an australorp(?)! I think Hubby wants me to cut back to just the ones that lay "normal" sized eggs!!

Herbandteas, I think it hatched. on or around 5/27? he/she(?) is fully feathered, still has some pin feathers and still talks like a baby!

My folks were just here for a visit and headed out today. They didn't mention much about the skeeters, and I don't recall them being an issue anytime we've visited. All the talk has been how cool of a year it's been. I guess they're in the 70s and 80s. (It's been raining here all day... So much for summer.)

I've been looking. CL is where we got our hens now (and our older Bearded Dragon). I emailed the person selling the 10 week old NHR, Buff Orp, and BR pullets, but haven't heard anything back.

I would just call up the lady I got my girls from as she had a TON of hens, but one of the hens I got doesn't lay, and I don't want to buy another bird who's not laying. Thankfully, I got 4 for the price of 3, but still.

Well, kind of embarrising to say but, Rats... LOL the littlest creatures, but they sure get mean when I have little ones in the coop and taking the grain out at night. The got my gosling just bit her a few times, but they killed my sons call duckling that he was going to show later this year or next years spring shows, they also bite a couple of the other ducklings. They were not super little babies either, almost fully feathered and doing great. They are all doing well now, healing up and very protected, they have never gone after any of my adult birds, yet anyway. I have gone all 100% poison free trying to tackle the buggers.
We have an old abandon blackberry vine covered house next door that god only knows what lives in there, along with some old sheds on our property. I have traps set and rotate them often as they are very smart and will avoid them sometimes.
I have only ever had one other full size bird get killed abou 3-4 years ago by a racoon, it killed it right through the chicken wire. Last year I had problems with the rats killing my quail, they have to be caged differently so the set up I had just wasnt working and I could let anymore get killed so I sold them all. I really miss them, hopefully this summer/fall/winter I will be getting a new shed built to house my chicks show chickens and such in to keep them a little safer, in the mean time I am building new pens for them above ground and the ones that will stay on ground putting down wire mesh then covering it with about 5inches of wood chips, this way they can not make there tunnels into my pens anymore.
It really sucks to have them but they love the grain, its that or just keep on feeding them, they are so gross though. I have a friend who works for Orkin (I believe thats it) the pest control, and shes helped me out with traps, and bait stations and mentioned making me some traps like one she made to trap a racoon she had at her place.
I am determined to get them GONE! This is why I have sold what I possably could part with now, so I could get some extra $$ to buy my 5 year old some more ducks so he can show with me and hatch and raise them himself.
I have a nice handful of chickens and a nice handful of ducks left now.

That is good to know, the camp site that we are going to my nephews great grandparents stayed there last weekend, (didnt find out till now) its a KM Resorts site or something, (my parents have a membership LOL) anyway, thats just wa=hat they said, they said that it wasnt kid friendly at that resort either, and they went to another. We are going with my 2 kids and my neice and nephew so it would really be cool for it to be kid friendly campsite, we will see when we get there though.
My MIL told me she read that is you used listerine the skeetered didnt like the smell or something and would leave you alone, I stocked up at the dollar store just incase it works LOL
Thank you!!

I'm so bummed and I figured only the folks on this board would understand.
I could not get a hold of my sister in time to see if she could pick up the Brown Chinese in Kent. I won't have a rig until we catch up on all the hay season breakdowns!
THEN,
Sometime last night, something came in and wiped out my guinea nest, I still haven't had the nerve to go see if my one and only female guinea is still around.

I also figured while I am here I would introduce myself!
I am just your average old lady that may have a small addiction to birds!!
I really like the ones with top knots, so my polish, crested ducks and tufted romans are my faves!
The farm was kinda alllowed to crumble before I took over, so I spend my days with three dogs and two overly tame goats, taking care of 30 or so cows, while trying to make the fields of weeds, turn to grass!

I am still on the look out for a male Brown Chinese!

I do have many silkie, bantam, frizzle cross birds that I need to sell, and a few ducks and a few polish!
If we are not haying on the 9th, I am pretty sure Hubby is going to make me haul them to Oakville.
He just don't understand!!

Hi Helaine!!

I still don't know if we are heading your way! Please don't take this personal, but I have been kinda hoping Hubby has forgotten the Bday party! He and I have both have been a little over worked these past few weeks and the long drive just to spend time with in-laws, does not sound very relaxing to me!(I did not say that)

We are not expected there until 2, I will let you know as soon as I know!
I do know, there is no way I am going to take that baby to Oakville, so if we don't make it your way, he/she(?) will still be here!!
