According to my sweet Hubby, it is VERY possible to have too many chickens!
And ducks..
And geese..
And guineas..
And dogs..
And goats.. (2, is too many?)

Since he pays the feed bill, I can't really argue with him.
I did try to convince him that they are all the same ones that have been here all along. I told him that some are just growing reeeal slow!
He did not believe me!!

thewife - just sent you a PM. My neighbor was telling me that she wants some silkies.

Think DBF would notice if a silkie suddenly showed up among our flock of 4? LOL

We may wait until spring but figured it was worthwhile investigating!

Hey you guys not to jump in the middle of your converstation but I saw someone was looking for silkies, I do not have any baby chicks available but I have a trio of buffs you might have seen my ad on craigslist trying to rehome them? If anyone here is interested in them I will sell them for $35. Here is my ad, the pictures you can see at craigslist...

https://post.craigslist.org/manage/774788809/b6rcu

Here is the story, my 5 year old got some very hard to find eggs shipped to him to hatch, so he could raise up the babies and show them in 4-H. Shipped eggs are very risky to get anything to hatch, we got one to hatch for him and planned to get him more later when we had more $$. Thursday night his baby was killed by a predetor, he is heart broken.

So here we have our Buff Silkies for sale, 2 hens and a rooster, 1 year old to under a year old, to try to get some more extra $$ to buy my son some more ducks to raise up, we decided to sell some of our chickens. These are the last of what we have left to sell.
We are asking a fee of $40 for the 3 chickens. They are bantams, and not agressive, one hen is broody right now sitting on a couple eggs I can sit under another broody hen, silkies are great mothers and will incubate anything you give them when they are broody. I love the buff color of silkies! Super cute!
We would prefer these not go for food

Thanks for your help.

Terra - just realized that's you. This is Jenn, the woman who took the banty cochin with the twisted beak!

Tribble is doing great and has started clucking.

Let me know if anyone wants any started chicks, juveniles or young adult birds. I have 12+ for sale...and I'm willing to travel a bit for them to go to the right home.

All were hatched this spring, unless otherwise noted.

1 Porcelain d'Uccle Cockerel
3 Golden Laced Cochin Cockerels
2 Black Sumatras (not sexed, yet)
2 Black Orpingtons (out of Blue/Splash/Black) parents (not sexed)
2 Golden Laced Cochin roos (just turned one year old this month)

I will be traveling from Okanogan through Wenatchee at the end of the month. Also, to Oregon around Labor Day weekend....so I would be able to hitchhike some poultry along the way.

Prices are nego. to right homes. Photos of all stock is available upon request!

Thanks!

~Heather

Terrie, Ione is only about 1-1 1/2 hours from Deer Park!!! We could almost be chicken neighbors to a certain extent lol. Ione is colder than DP area and an example of how cold we get, a couple years ago we got down to -22 with wind so it felt colder than that.
We have never had any problems with frost bite on the muscovies or geese. We have little boxes for the roosters in the winter and the one night that they stayed outside we only had two roosters get frost bite and it wasnt that bad. The geese just sit out in the cold, sometimes they go under a bush in the winter. Sometimes on the coldest nights or snowy nights we will chase them into the straw houses and close the door just to be safe.

Just wondering, why will you be moving to Ione from Oregon?

We are looking for a change, we have friends there and a business opp. It is gorgeous there and I like the idea of a slower life. Housing is more afforable and I love the small community feel.
I had 3 job offers just manning my booth at Down River Days.

FMP, do you have a heated barn area for your birds? I have some crippled ducks I think I have told you about and I worry that the cold would affect their joints.

Hi! I am trying to figure out the easiest way to get my day old chicks. I am going on vacation from Lakewood to Wenatchee and will return home on the 23rd of August. I must wait till that late to get them. I was going to order them from BYC but thought I would try the feed stores locally first. Since we will be in Wenatchee and travelling through or close to Cle Elum, Leavenworth I thought I would ask about those places first. I talked to Monroe Farm and Feed and they were GREAT but out of the way. Any ideas??? I am new to chickens- but very excited. We are looking for a variety of colors but REALLY want docile peaceful choices, maybe: an Austrolorp, Ameraucauna, barred plymouth rock and a white plymouth rock?
Thanks! I'm glad to find you guys!

Jenn, so glad you are enjoying her, I only had her a week but while I had her she seemed very nice!
A friend of mine bought a call duckling from me about 2 years ago, she just loves that duck to peices, it lives in her house, and goes to dog shows and such with her, how cool is that to have a house duck, if I could I would, I dont care who ya are thats just CUTE until it poops and you step in it LOL She sends me pictures of him cuddling with her dog and tells me how great she and her family adore him.
Just like you I love to hear from the people who have bought birds from me and how much they are enjoying there new family members. Keep me posted!

Wow, thats cool. We have a shed row of pens that arent heated, just little mini-coops that they go in. The main coop for the layers has insulation and all and one half is heated with a small heater. Our coop used to be part of the house so it is nice inside with lenoleum and such. A heated coop would be a good idea but not many people around here have them and do fine.
