Actually, now that I almost have the Ameraucana flock complete. I'm looking for layers, decent DP birds, preferably of a larger veriety. I would like to be able to have some birds to grow out for the freezer. Meat is just getting so expensive, and if prices keep going the way they have been. Im afraid its gonna be a rough winter.
I wouldnt mind having some pure Marans, for the egg color. I like the size on Sussex, have always wanted LF cochins. I'm not picky on color, but would prefer to have as few white birds as possible. I was looking into Buckeyes, but they are a bit out of my price range right now. I like Barred Rocks, but havnt had much luck finding anything locally that isnt hatchery stock, And I wouldnt mind getting my hands on a true heritage strain of RIR's. I also like Orpingtons. Im just like everyone else! Cant have just one breed! lol
Honestly, I would be happy with a mixed hatch. Thats why I was trying for the 2 dozen I found last night. It was a mix of 4 breeds, Light sussex, BLRW, Cukoo marans, and FBCM.
Oh and I love these little BB Ameraucana and the Olive eggers! except they are escape artists! But I think out of all 10, I will be lucky if 3-4 turn out to be pullets. lol I checked combs last night, and only 3 dont have 3 rows of bumps. The rest have 3 rows, and are already getting a bit bigger in the comb. So if I go off the comb, it looks like so far I have 2BW Ameraucana pullets, and 1 maby 2 olive egger pullets. Though one of the combs looks like the start to a rose comb. "at least I think thats what this shape is called."
Ill try to get pictures of that one. Hopefully I can get a close enough shot for it to be clear.
My neighbors have been bugging me about eggs. I keep telling them that I wont have any to sell until these chicks grow up. lol So not until fall at the least.
My entire Cuckoo Marans flock is going~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh and the Ameraucanas and OEs will have what is called a "pea comb"
But I thought you LOVED your CM? That you were working with them... I distinctly remember a very involved conversation you and I had back in the beginning of winter about your CM's... lol
