DH is leaning towards the whiz bang type.
He will no doubt use a washer motor & belt system, in a cut off plastic 55 gallon drum, with the bottom "feather plate" from whiz bang, and fingers from whiz bang too.
And make our own "cage" with handle & wheels.
But who knows ?
he wants to build his own plate.
I figured with a chunk of sheet aluminum, CR could cut one out?
Don't know, it is aluminum...

DH is out in his fort cyphering...he has tablets of sketches & diagrams and ideas....

So finally the icy-foggy is drifting away and the sunny-warmy is coming through the trees....

Hopefully my vegie starts survived last night in their styrofoam covered 'cold frame'.
I have not lifted the lid to see....

I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination but in my observation of the thousand bantie army that held the farm for a couple of decades, hens stop caring much about what their chicks get up to at about the time they start to exhibit clear secondary sexual characteristics/ at the time the hen gains back sufficient weight to set another clutch of eggs. These were pure feral mutt banties, with a high fraction of game fowl genetics, so take that observatio with a big chunk of salt.

Also, in case you haven't observed this already: evil grammarians are made to diagram my sentences in Hell.

Thank you for the info...regarding mutt banties...I figure a momma bird is a momma bird - whether or not she had a pedigree.

I'm totally new to chickendom also - down in BG Washington. I may end up posting in the Oregon/Portland one also since we're pretty close to there.

Howdy y'all!

Evil grammarians do indeed grab us all by the vocal cords from time to time here....sometimes the evil Hillbilly grammarians arise forth from their dusty coffins, and grab several of us by the brain stem......it is usually right around Cocktail hour...........................

Ondra's Seramas :

Went to your website and looked at your Seramas. Also learned that you are in Chelan...I am in Omak....

I am getting some Seramas from Jbear for my DD to play with/show. I am hoping that she will join 4-H with them and do some showing. I am excited to get them. I will need to do some talking with you some time. Went to Wenatchee today...it was so warm there compared to Omak. Very nice. Hope you had fun in Stevenson.

Hi!

Hi! Have fun with the Seramas. They are wonderful little birds. We might have to talk sometime. Wenatchee is much warmer than Chelan right now....brr. How many Seramas are you planning on getting?

At this point we are getting a trio. We figured this was a good place to start. I already have 10 laying (large girls) hens and 1 banty roo and 1 banty hen...13 chicks...25 orp eggs to arrive tomorrow to stick in the incubator...yeah, I have gotten a whole lot in a short period of time. All extras (whoever does not sell) by fall will be in the freezer (without DH or DD knowing). They will "magically" have all sold to someone. I will have my 3 or 4 banties, the Seramas, and my big girls for laying....so even there we are talking approx 12 layers/1 big roo; 2 or 3 banty hens/1 banty roo; and trio of seramas. How many does that make? 20 birds going into next winter? I'm nuts aren't I?
