Hi!

Hi! Have fun with the Seramas. They are wonderful little birds. We might have to talk sometime. Wenatchee is much warmer than Chelan right now....brr. How many Seramas are you planning on getting?

At this point we are getting a trio. We figured this was a good place to start. I already have 10 laying (large girls) hens and 1 banty roo and 1 banty hen...13 chicks...25 orp eggs to arrive tomorrow to stick in the incubator...yeah, I have gotten a whole lot in a short period of time. All extras (whoever does not sell) by fall will be in the freezer (without DH or DD knowing). They will "magically" have all sold to someone. I will have my 3 or 4 banties, the Seramas, and my big girls for laying....so even there we are talking approx 12 layers/1 big roo; 2 or 3 banty hens/1 banty roo; and trio of seramas. How many does that make? 20 birds going into next winter? I'm nuts aren't I?

Atually, I found these on CL Spokane. And come to find out the person I got them from shows Silkies! She's the one that told me all about the Poultry show in Stevenson and invited me down,( can't go have prior commitment). But, as you can tell, I started out with a pair and now have three hens and a drake! I'm just learning about Muscovy's but, from what I can tell they are very nice! I'll post some pics on here in the next day or so. I'll be selling ducklings and hatching eggs as soon as I can figure out what I'm doing!

I think you are talking about the lady I show with, Calesta. She has some very nice birds- silkies, cochins, muscovies. She brought me a couple of scovies to join my Dewlap Incubation Team (currently consisting of a couple standard cochins and some Sebastopol geese who were being persistently broody). She's very sweet- she's also running a really cool garden business in Newman Lake selling heritage vegetable starts by the boxful.

Yep that's her! My BF and I just met her Friday, very nice person! She was telling us about her nursery it sounds cool! She was giving me pointers on showing Scovy's so it was nice to meet her and we will be keeping touch ! I told her to e-mail me and let me know how she did at the show!

I had to slice 2 toes that were fused. It was turning my stomach at first but was no big deal in the end. Won't bother me to do it in the future but hopefully won't ever have to do it again. Now I just need to learn how to capon! I think I could do it!

There is a step by step thread on BYC on how to caponize.
I will not waste my time on that.
Cockerals uneeded go into the freezer for soup & rooster pot pie.
Meat birds will be raised for meat.
Sounds like you did a great job on the toe seperation.

Thanks CL. So when are your roos old enough for freezer camp?

Oh so that's how they make it? Its the Whiz bang chicken plucker, I looked at the website a while back, I was going to buy the plans to make it. Glad you said something I have two washers we were going t haul to the dump! I think I'll hang on to one and try it, keep us informed on how yours turns out! I just bought a used one, not as proficient but, I'm sure it will work! better than doing it by hand!

Just for the sake of adding to my information overload, does anyone in the Puget Sound area or around these parts even have Silver Spangled Hamburgs? There ara a trio of Splash ones in the auction section, but that's not what I want, and I'm being very toddler right now about getting what I want, exactly what I want, not anything at all I don't want, no, no, no, no, NO!!1!!!eleventy!!

(Excuse me please, I've been living with someone in severe back pain for over a year, post surgical for seven months, and my patience, she is gone).

(Also, it's MONDAY!)
