I know my houseplants are happier than me: the Christmas cactus just finished blooming, and five of the cheap Phalenopsis from Trader Joes are making new buds/new bud stems even though they're already in bloom.

For anybody looking for a "flashlight" to candle with. Check out the Monarch 500 made by Leatherman. It is stainless, a little bigger than the "mini mags" and is LED. I have one and can light the stop sign at the end of our road, 1/2 mile away. I have used mine for candling and had good luck with it. When I got mine a couple years ago they were very new and cost $30.

There's also a small Victronix (like the Swiss Army Knives) LED flashlight with a small beam that I can spotlight coyotes 500 feet from the house with (not for any purpose except to annoy them: I don't shoot and that's way out of range for a pellet gun, anyway). I expect it would work for candling, too. I dunno, I've only candled eggs for human consumption, so we used a rolling-feed box with a light under plexiglas.

Not sure what hooks you mean. Are you talking about the ones laying on the table. Those are actually Coat racks in the shape of cactus.

Since folks are posting pics of their kitties I wanted to jump in too. "Dorian St. Cloud" is not a fat cat, but he is pretty cool. One day I was returning a couple of our foster kittens to the Pierce County Humane Society so they could have their surgery and be put up for adoption and just happened to run across this guy who was needing a new home. I spent 10 minutes with him and fell in love. He is definitely one of the BEST cats I've ever had.

And chicken news - 4 girls in the coop for a few days now. 2 Ameraucanas, light Sussex and Barnevelder from CGG. Yesterday I finally put the batteries in the automatic door and within 30 seconds "Whitey Ford", the Sussex was out in her enclosed run clucking happily. The other 3 never came out, but spent most of the day on the top roost of the henhouse. They only came down when I brought treats. Dilly and Harper, the Amercaucanas, happily take treats from my hands. Barnevelder is still very skittish. I'm hoping the other 3 decided they're brave enough one day to leave the henhouse and enjoy the big run we built for them!
Whitey Ford has laid 3 eggs in 4 days and yesterday finally found the nest box after I put a couple of golf balls in there.
