We were saving the eggs for the next broody (she had another 7 under my EE - I've thrown 2 out. I suspect the others under the EE are not viable, but I really need a better flashlight before I toss them. I need to candle Harriet's eggs as well - I think hers will be easier since she does not attack me! If all the EE eggs are duds, I may take a few from harriet to put under her, or maybe I will get some more baby chicks from the feedstore and sneak them under the EE.

I just ordered a Brinsea EcoGlow Electric Hen. I'm hoping it works well. 18 watts to replace one of my 2 X 250 watt light bulbs has anyone here used them?

Not yet. But after reading so many "glowing" reviews about the EcoGlow, I ordered one when I ordered my incubator. I liked everything I read about it and was thinking how much easier it would be for me to set up, since I'm not much of a DIY'er. It's going to work out great in my new grow out brooder box I bought at the show. I should have a review in about... 21 days!

I'm eggcited about it - I think it will pay for itself in about 4-6 weeks with our utility bills!

Okay, if we are going to be doing the hatch buddy stuff....I just set 28 Orpington eggs in my Brinsea 20 Eco yesterday. can I join in? On my first hatch I did have to refill the reservoirs every 3-4 days to keep the humidity up. This will be my second hatch. I am excited.

Yay, another hatch buddy!

wsdareme got one of the EcoGlows a couple of months ago, loves it to death -- dunno why she doesn't post on the Washingtonians thread, check out her postings on the BCM thread

she's a couple miles from me, also in Yelm -- I invited her to come up for the wine and chicks party, haven't heard back yet

I don't think she would mind my referring to one of her EcoGlow postings

Cool! Thanks!

Can I join in on the hatching group? I just picked up 18 Marans eggs from Monicas! Hopefully I will get them all in tonite so tomorrow will be day one. But my Seramas get moved to the Hatcher on Sunday for lockdown, so I may have a few running a day or so behind.

Whew! Caught up!

Since it was sunny today, and I don't know when it will be again, I decided to mow some of our grass. What a challenge! First thing I noticed was a bunch of fresh fern leaves and other junk sticking out of the hood of the John Deere - popped the thing open, and the entire inside was stuffed full of leaves, twigs, branches, scraps of landscape fabric and stuffing from the dog bed that Shasta tore up. I shoveled it out with a pitchfork and found 5 baby chipmunks with there eyes still closed! They're gonners, I tossed then out on the ground with all the nesting materials. I checked the wiring - some was chewed but it did not look too bad (our generator caught fire a few years back from a rodent nest!)Then I went to mow - my hens are NOT afraid of the mower! They followed me around! I got the flat part mowed, but the yard is very wet with a lot of standing water. I don't get it, but the sloped part of my yard is especially wet. I did not intend to take the mower down the hill, but went to mow just above the hill when I lost traction and slid sideways all the way down till I hit the fence! When I tried getting out of there, I just spun the tires and spattered everything with mud! I did manage to face the mower up-hill, but it aint moving until the hill dries up!

Hens sure are happy with all the wormies the lawn tractor dug up!

The Nursery at Mt. Si on Monday for anyone who lives near North Bend:

Cisco and Meeghan and Bob
While we have no idea what the weather is going to do Monday afternoon, we can tell you that Cisco Morris and Meeghan Black will be here at the Nursery at Mount Si. They, and their crew, will be here to talk with Bob Rivers about two of his hobbies: chickens and bees.

Who knew Bob kept chickens and bees? Well, we knew because Bob keeps several breeds of beautiful chickens and a couple of beehives at the Nursery.

This is NOT your regular Gardening with Cisco show with the Q&A session. Rather it will provide you with a behind the scenes look at the activity required to make such a production take place. Come out and learn more about chickens, bees, and of course, ask questions about your passion (and ours), Gardening!

(I talked to Bob on Wednesday to see if he would be interested in ordering food from Patriot; he is. Now I need a few more so we can have a North Bend drop off place.)
