When we came home from my sisters, the non-fruiting suckering beast of a spectacularly perfumed rootstock plum next to my front door was full of tiny insectivorous birds and even tinier hummers, and, I suspect, has bought another year by bribing the golden-rumped warblers back close to the house.

I'm such a sucker, I deserve the ones growing everywhere.

Perfumed and attracts birds are redeeming qualities if ever I've heard them.

CHICKEN PRO QUESTION:Okay, My tiny cochin chick has a crooked/twisted toe. I had not noticed it before. I know I have heard you guys talk about this before. Is there anyway to help her? Could she have broke it? Or has it just come out? I know that you have all talked about this and it could be a genetic defect. I don'thave the heart to cull her....she would never be used for reproducing. If it turns to be a roo, he will be culled without the DH or DD knowing. I will go and try to do some research on BYC to see what it tells me. Thank you all.

I am no pro.... but from what I have heard ONE of the causes of that can be due to RH in the bator. I do have a BSL that was a feed store chick. I didn't notice it for a while but she has one toe that curls out to the side. This has not affected her one bit that I can tell. IMHO if it doesn't seem to bother her and you don't plan to breed I would just leave it alone.

wow, where was the night crew ?
Everyone went to beddy-bye early ?
Too much fun and Easter feasting ?
Well, I see we have yet another wonderful warm & sunny spring day...awesome weather I must say.
I guess I will drive to the garden center & get a bag of sterile compost to plant the sweet meats and melons....I seriously doubt if we will have another we know as "summer" here this year.

The shed place, who made the big barn shed we call home, has all sorts of sizes, and the 8x8 'cottage' which has a gable roof, is $1300. delivered, no nothing inside.
We have a few windows, and wire & insulation and can whip it into a little cabin in a few days.
So do not want to spend any more than that on a trailer.
I like the cottage better instead of a collection of boats, old cars & now a trailer parked at the foot of our driveway.

So that well maybe the way we go.
Incidently, the guy rents to own, and as far as I know, does not charge interest, so it comes to $65 a month.
Can't beat that with a stick.

Later, we may 'do' Cabelas, but I think I will just order on line, their drill mounted plucker, to use until DH gets the barrel-style plucker done.

We put the Hav-A-hart trap in the back 'yard' last night with a big handful of chicken bones inside as bait.
This morning, the trap was closed, but no prisoner inside, and the bones all gone but for a few sharp splinters that had fallen through the trap's wire bottom !
So, whatever it was, sat in their and crunched away, spilling the few shards of bone, then left and set the trap's trigger off on exit.

DH said must have been mice stole the bones.
I said no way can mice chew up bones & leave shards like that.
Whatever it was had big strong teeth, I am saying possum.
The trap's trigger just was stuck enough to not go off until the beast was almost gone, maybe it's tail touched on exit and snapped the trap shut, empty.
So we set it again tonight.
Probably a nasty possum living under this barn.
I keep hearing noises in back, and that is where the chick pen is...so that is why I am concerned.
OK, I guess I am off to enjoy the sun !!!!
NOT!!!!!!!!!

Bad night, little sleep, much pain.

Also it's raining. I am not a happy camper. But then, Monday, what can one expect.

I have a 4 week old Porcelain D'Uccle cockeral that is looking for some banty ladies to be in charge of. I was hoping for a pair, but the female porcelain I hatched out didn't make it. He is free to a good home, and I'd be willing to meet you half way (within reason) for the hand-off.

Anyone interested? I can attach a picture or PM a pic if you like, and can discuss the fabulous health of my little flock. The eggs were bought here on BYC and were from NPIP sellers.
