I apologize for butting in on the worm thread, but I'm curious about something.
On I-5 at Toledo have any of you stopped at the Country House restaurant? It is across the freeway from Mrs. Beesleys.
The country house has a chicken theme and seems to be a simple straightforward diner.

My concern is the chickens in the back. Am I being over-fussy, or am I right in thinking this is a pretty miserable set-up for hens?

Wow, the more I read, the more confused I become. Seems there are as many opinions as there are people, but I trust you guys so:

Should I use Wazine first? I have no clue if my birds have worms now. I have never seen any signs of them. All I can confidentally say is they look happy and healthy, and far nicer than any other chickens I have seen around North Bend. (plump birds, shiny feathers, smooth legs, active, healthy, happy, clean coop, no odd behavior)

1) How old must chicks/hens be before you start worming them?

2) If you have hens that are nearly a year old that have never been wormed before, must you first treat with Wazine? Is there something else that can be used for a first treatment that does not have an egg withdrawal period?

3) Are organic products like Verm-X effective?

4) Should I have a vet do a fecal float on some chicken poop before I decide which product to use?

5) How often do you worm?

These are the products/options I am considering:

1) Verm-X monthly (price is shockingly high to do this)

2) Valbazen (some say there is an egg withdrawl period, some say not). Every 6 months? Once per year?

3) Wazine Followed by Eprinex

4) Safeguard (Do I need to use Wazine first and is there an egg withdrawal period for Safeguard?)

I have not been using DE because the bag I bought does not say it is food grade. I need to find the good stuff. The injured hen currently has poop stuck to her feathers because she hardly stood for 3 days, but she is roaming the yard happily with the other hens now, and can almost keep up. Will the poop wear off or should I giver her another bath?
