WG I am also sorry for your loss, I would be livid too. I don't like somone else making decisions for me and my animals. Especially the choice of life or death.

Russ, I will call the feed store and buy him a bag. Thanks for answering my question before I could ask it. I was thinking about it a little earlier today and was going to post the question when I got on here.

We are having a very relaxing day and the girls got to be out free ranging for 3 hours today. They were having such a good time!

My DH had a few friends over today. They brought over ten muskovy drakes to take to freezer camp. They finished nine of them. The tenth was granted a reprieve and next week they will bring over four or five females for us. Evidently they started with a quartet and this morning had over twenty live ducks. So yeah, I am the unexpected owner of some very fertile likely to go broody ducks. And of course I have four in freezer camp.

Weave - Extremely sorry to hear about your roo

Rei.. so glad everyone made it home okay. They had been in the garage, so it would be a good idea to keep them a bit warmer till they adjust. The biggest reason I didn't have them in the coop yet is because my australorp can be a real witch, so I guess I sheltered them some from that.

Funny story.. today we let the little ones out, and Punkin (my little polish roo) decided he should abandon the flock and make himself at home.. in my house. He spent the day sitting on the dining room floor, watching movies on the couch, and basking in front of the propane heater. Ladies and Gentlemen, I think I have a house chicken. He did get kicked back out into the garage for the night though.

Thanks to all for your kind words. Chickens are on strike today. Only 7 eggs. But I hope that a few days of ranging and sunshine will bring them back up to 9 or so. I gave away all of my eggs before leaving for the holidays. I am hoping to have enough to give away one more dozen soon. But first, I want an omlet. Moody's dad gave me Wood Ear and sh itaki Mushrooms before he left. And I have some great extra sharp white cheddar in the fridge. I can't wait to eat it tomorrow.

Well dang it, I have one living inside the house for the moment. For some reason one of my russian orloff's is losing the feathers around its rear end. The other chickens began to peck the pink skin raw and were starting to peck it to death! Luckily the hubby saw this happening before too much damage occurred. So we have this one hen inside for "awhile" until she heals.

She is NOT happy. We have a multiple dog household and I must say the dogs are doing awesome. She is in a large wire crate. The dogs are ignoring her but she squacks and tries to fly around every time one walks by. I have her in a somewhat secluded area but we have a small home and no where inside is really "out of the way."

Any suggestions on what to do with my orloff, whose name is "Unpretty" would be appreciated. She is young and just starting to lay so making her dinner would not be an option really at the moment. Any ideas about what to do about her pecked rear end? It is not actively bleeding but I had a similar thing happen to a different orloff and I ended up losing it to some sort of gangrene that set into the tissue. I'd hate to lose Unpretty the same way. Maybe I'm posting this to the wrong area? But I don't think too many people have Orloffs except folks from Washington.

I don't have Orloff's, but I would put some blue-kote on the pecked areas. That "should" keep the others from pecking at it. In the meantime throw some old towles or a blanket or three sides of the dog crate so she feels a little more protected and secure. Good luck with her!

OK so I hope this is the best place for this ???? If not build a bridge and get over it no no no just kiddin!

OK so for the Feb get to gether help me out here what will be appropriate dress? I/we don't get out much and for me dressed up is my newest hickory shirt and my newest riggin britches. and wash the guy lines. I just don't wanna get there and feel way outta place cause it is a little too far to go home and change.

YES the Chicken Rustler is coming to the city on Feb 28 (unless something unexpected) so ya better lock yer coops cause I am lookin to add more color to my eggs. I may be lookin to rustle some EE's and sumthin dat lays DARK eggs. I will have plenty of room in da truk and if I think there a lot of unsecure coops may bring the enclosed trailer it will hold lots of chickens in 3 levels.

So who lives close to Kirkland and has EE's / Dark egg layers?

Is yer coop VERY secure?
