Okay guys!!!
4312, Sadiesue, Chickielady, Zgoatlady (who am I forgetting!) Ya'll are driving me NUTS!

I have NO room for an incubator, NO time for any more 'projects', NO experience hatching, NO coop

but you's have me so enthralled with this process that I'm starting to do research before my first little batch of chickens EVER are even THINKING of laying!

I'm looking for the safety button on my keyboard that tells me, "Look away from the pictures! Just say NO!"

Great job, you's guys...

Them are SOME little cuties...

I surely had no intention of hatching chicks...but DD and I got hooked and DH doesn't have a chance. I made comment of a third hatch...his comment: "where are you going to stick all thes chicks"...my comment: "In the Juvenile pen, oh, and I need to build a small banty pen". He gave me the stink eye.

DD and I are justifying that we are going to sell the chicks to supplement our chicken habit. Yes, this is an addiction and these people are enablers - careful. I am considering watching CL for a second incubator...now that would blow DH's mind. Without the DD or DH having to participate, I will send any remaining cockerels to freezer camp this fall. I am hoping that RFF FIL will help me.....

. Has anyone heard from RFF? How is she doing? I may have to hunt her down to see how it is all going.

For my DD it is a facinating experience. The full life cycle. I did not want to deal with dogs and having to trust people I am selling the pups to, I don't have room for lambs, horses, cows, or pigs. I know there is NO way that I could convince anyone in this house to eat rabbit - although I was raised on it....so chickens, for us, was the perfect choice.

Good luck.

good grief, did everyone's roosters forget to crow this morning ?

looks like my chicks need more training about "following the feed dish" ... when we tried that yesterday -- moving them from current run to new tractor -- only two of the seven followed me despite my holding the feed where they could nibble as they walked

so we wound up picking them up and carrying them -- and Phoebe as usual, dodged our attempts to pick her up

today may present a challenge, since I shoved the old run about three feet away from the coop ... so the pop-holes no longer mate up; there's empty space between them

working together, DH and I shepherded them from run into coop last evening, we will see if we both need to be there this morning to get them back ... it's too chilly for me to sit out beside the tractor, and it's lightweight and flimsy enough, that I don't feel right about having them in it without supervision

I may just build a temporary connecting tunnel from coop to the old pen, until I get the new one up (fence wire is partly unrolled, ready to staple into place, though I need my hammer and the wire cutters, to secure it properly

nice bright sun out there, but --- supposedly May 1 is our last-frost date --- yet I can see white on the grass ...

Our little May Day parade is tomorrow; wish us sun!
Night all...

Have fun today...I heard that was today...I gotta work or we would come up. We are going to the play tonight at the PAC.
Sorry, when I got up this morning I have rain, but you are some 50 miles away, maybe your weather is better. Do a lot of Canadians come down for this?

Well, I turned on the shower to high hot...let it steam the room.
Brought the incubator into the bathroom.
Opened it up
Did the float/water (water right at 100 degrees) test on my eggs.
Per the test...they are all viable. In fact one was rockin around.
So back into the incubator..
...humidity fine.
Back to kitchen counter and wait and see what the next few days bring.
Guess I got some late bloomers. Or shy chicks.
