likewise has been pouring here all day

DH, bless his heart, went out, put another tarp over the run, let the chicks out of the coop -- I told him it would be muddy BUT they can hang on on top of the platform/pallet where we keep the feed and water ... and in a little while if it eases off, I'll go pull them some fresh dandelion and "fuzzy nasty velcro-ey" weed ... both of which they dearly love

am so glad they like this weed, it is a PEST ! will have to look it up to see what the actual name is, started showing up in the NW about five years ago or so

Good use of evasive tactics. I've mastered the art pretty well in the past 20 years. That's how the incubator, ecoglow, brooder box, and finally chicks all ended up in the house. They all just kind of showed up one day, first in cardboard boxes tucked in different rooms, then moved to the computer room, then one day the incubator was humming along with eggs inside. Of course by this time nothing can be returned, so it has to stay. And now there are 6 sweet babies occupying DH's computer room while he plays his games. I hear him talking to the chicks while he's in there, "How you doing guys? You sure are little guys."

DH would ask questions during the few weeks of getting things set up, but I tried not to give him too much information at once. Just enough for him to handle a bit at a time so he could process that, then I'd add something new, and now he's comfortable enough with it that he believes he was privy to the plan all along.
Stealth acquisition.

I hope we get to see photos of some of your new chicks when they hatch Heather. You have a nice variety!

Cute chick pics! What kind were they again? I know you posted somewhere a few pages back... So are these the first chicks belonging to your farm? Good to hear from you - I think it's been awhile.

In the pictures there are buffs and americauna, the bc marans wont be here till next friday.

They are indeed the first chickies here. We have raised and still do raise Nigerian Dwarf Goats (milk goats) and grow lots of veggies.

You won't be doing her any more favors I guess. Kids can be so dumb.

I used to. I used to give her cash, and when I was in CA I boxed up rice, canned goods, mac'n'chees, boxed scallop potatoes, oatmeal, you name it, and toiletries, deoderant, shampoo, cream rinse, pantie pads, girlie stuff, bras, panties, shirts, pants, socks.
The postage alone was killer.
I even sent her cat food, canned & kibbled.
She chastised me for getting the wrong size several times, so I am soooooooooooo over her.
She is off to Chicago to live with an on-line dude she met (on line) I am waiting for the call of "Oh Mom, I need a plane ticket home!"
So am almost afraid to answer my phone.

The on-line thing can work. I met Mr H on Match.com. My next door neighbor has been with a woman from back east he met on-line for over a year now.

The rain is coming down here like a cow pissin on a flat rock, and I so don't need any more rain. We were still with some standing water from April, it was almost gone. Now reinforcements have arrived, soon the will ducks will be back floatin on the back few acres of the property.

I'm sleeping a lot, and having very bizarre dreams. Among other things I found a cage of speckled sussex chicks under the bed I'd forgotten about getting a coop for. I've got chicks on the brain.

Sounds like your sub conscious is trying to tell ya something..........you are getting back to normal?

So, what did Johnny Depp showing up in a pirate hat and Mr H's bathrobe mean?

Wow. You certainly made the right decision getting out of there. This last fiasco just confirms that. Glad to hear baby is active. What a wonderful feeling it must be to know that both of you are healthy and are being well taken care of!

21 days and three hours. Not a peep or a pip. These guys are taking their time. The incubator ran perfectly the whole time with temp and humidity exactly as Brinsea instructions said. The eggs were hand delivered or picked up at the farm so there is no reason why at least a few of them shouldn't hatch. Just a little sign that somebody is home would be nice! (No, I didn't candle them. Didn't have anything to do it with so I just sent them confident vibes and talked to them a lot!) I am trying not to go look more than once an hour.
I could try the hatch dance but I'm so bad I would probably just make it rain harder.

yes -- the online thing can indeed work, depending on WHERE online, you meet them

I met DH on a message board run by and for, women pilots, with men allowed IF they show proper respect to the Princesses,
and agree to discuss "feelings"

(my hubby had just died, his wife had just taken off to move elsewhere and do other things; we started out discussing mutual acquaintances and crying on each other's shoulder)

we've been together going on eleven years now
