Morning everyone. Today is freezer camping day for me. I am not looking forward to it, but it is into the first of the year and the new ordinance went into effect on the first. So we have to do something with all of those cockerels that we have at our mysterious "other location" The freezer is also a little bit sparce right now, so the dye is cast. No turning back.
Woke up this AM with a head ache, and no coffee roasted in the house. Ugh! I broke the handle on my roaster,

and have to order a replacement. I thought I could rig it, but no dice. Gonna have to pick up a latte on the way to "camp grounds"

Pinky is crowing, insisting on some time ranging. The seven chicks in the house (Mike's Barnies and Marans) are cheeping like mad and need to be fed. All is right here at home..... Wish I could go back to bed and just enjoy it. Ah well.

I want to thank you all for helping me think through my panic yesterday. Today I am much calmer and have noted some things that will help with the problem.

1. They are not nearly as noisy in the morning if I don't talk to them. If I just let them out and go back inside, there's a few whacks, quacks and honks, then they are all quiet. It's me that likes the morning commotion.
2. My husband is not okay with Ranaya and Rommy getting rehomed.
3. We're looking into leasing some land nearby so that I can set up a bigger operation.

When he told me to start looking I just about fell over.
4. The cats cannot be part of the morning letting the ducks out because then the alert whacks, quacks and honks go non-stop till they have chased the cats away.

Looks like I will give fresh water and feed about the same time I put them away at night so they can come out in the morning without a lot of disturbance. I can wait till later in the morning to get my commotion fix. If this works, I will be SO happy.

Yeah I know. I can't believe it either.... I got Dunkin Doughnuts, and I have to admit, it isn't bad. A little bit stale, but not bad.

Well WG you have my sympathies on the freezer camp duty, and without having some really good coffee too.

It just isn't right when things like this come together and conspires together on you like that.

I just hope that you won't have to help, as much as I did last week, when we did the dirty deed to my sisters hand raised Marans Rooster.

He was very delicious, and I still have another batch of French Rooster soup to make. That sounds so much tastier than just chicken stew doesn't it.

I think though when DH and I culled the 3 roo chicks, was the hardest thing I have had to do in a long while. It didn't help that one of the roo chicks was the feather legged BC Marans chick, which was the only one out of 11 eggs that hatched.

It just didn't make sense to keep feeding the roos only to have to get rid of them as soon as they started to crow. The roos aren't worth anything at auction until they are fairly large birds. Now I feel like I need to apologize to Mike for doing in 2 of his wonderful little boy chicks too.

rainplace I so glad today you have better options with your Gooses today. It sure beats having your Goose cooked, is it not? (God I am so sorry I could not resist, I should have tried harder. amen.)

I also completely understand about needing a commotion fix.

I also have had a few conversations with the neighbors, about the noise that the dogs and other critters make, and the only thing that was mentioned by one of the neighbors was the sound of my voice telling the dogs to shut up.

I try to be quieter, but I am pretty sure that I still make a failing grade.

Hi All

So today I went out and was thinking that I hadn't sen my cuckoo maran hen lay yet....While cleaning I noticed my americana hen going behind the nest boxes(thought I had blocked it) I pulled out the boxes and found this wonderful suprise:

I also wanted to show everyone my coop...it is 8x8, there are 6 nest boxes and 4 eight foot perches for the kids. I have 15 chickens and 4 guines and they seem to be really happy.

Last but not least, I mentioned here I had come up with a new breed of chicken that faints when she sees people. I was asked for pics...well here they are...and no she is not dead!!!

I have yet to catch her standing upright because when she sees you she does exactly what is in the pics and I cannot get close enough to show you what she looks like when no one is around her. But I have watched her with bonocculars(sorry if it is speled wrong) and she eats and scratches like normal. No kidding!!

Can't wait to meet everyone at the party!

By the way I am making an order for chicks in February if anyone is interested and wants to order to share costs let me know....

As for my weird chicken, I am not sure what is wrong with her she is really strange how she acts. She is the only one that does it and she even lays eggs for me....go figure
