You're in the styx? You still get good finds....I rarely find anything exciting and when I do, they are 4 hours away. (I'm sulking now - don't you feel sorry for me?)

Rainwolf (and someone else) seems to find really-really good stuff ALL the time. I get very jealous.

Sure does sound like it would work better....just heard on the news that we have had 1.25 inches of rain. I am sick of it...so are my birds.

In the last two days we received 2.5 inches of rain some places close by received around 5 to 6 inches. We are right in the middle of tornado season, in a couple of weeks the chances of tornados will start to go down. I hope we only get rain.

It seems like you all have had a very wet and cold spring, I hope it warms up for you all. I know in a couple of weeks I will be wishing for winter.

This has to be the longest, coldest, wetest spring we have seen in umpteen years. I cannot remember one this bad.

I have been watching your posts and am thankful when I hear that you and your family are well. Very scary stuff in your neck of the woods. Stay safe.

HI neighbor. :) I am over by Cabela's, off 31st & Willamette in Christa Heights. The Farm is over off of college, right?

Hey that is cool. We live over on Johnson Pt Rd. Pretty close to you. So there is 3 or 4 of us that live in Lacey Olympia area. And a few down south. We need to do a Secret Get Together for the south end group.

I have a cousin who lives off Johnson Point Road; his wife has three SLWs. Chickens all over!

My oldest Pom is diabetic. We have been dealing with this for a year. She is doing rather well for being such an old lady. It is doable. And also, I have learned, that there is a bit of fudging room.....She gets fed twice a day and gets her shot....but It is not like clock-work. We keep it all within an hour or so of a set time, and she is doing really well. My dog is on 5 units of Humulin N twice a day. I get the medicine from Wal*Mart...it was $25 a bottle, but I think it may have just gone up.

We're thinking of driving up to Leavenworth tomorrow just to get away for the day. We'd love to take a vacation, but that isn't happening any time soon, so we'll take a few day trips.

The dry stuff IS the vaccine, the liquid is just to use to mix it in.
Follow the directions & be ready with syringes and alcohol & keep the big bottle of mixed vaccine in a bowl with ice while you work .
You need small short needles for the birds, and a big needle to mix some of the liquid into the dry little bottle, then shake, then draw it back out & shoot it into the big bottle & shake.
Then draw some out & fill the syring & PUT THE SMALL needle on the syringe to shoot the birds under the skin at the back of the head/neck. Wet with alcohol, it is easy to shoot the needle in at an angle & upwards and squirt in a tiny "bubble" of vaccine.
It hardly takes any time at all.
It is easy.

yes ma'am I understand the vaccine part what bothers me is that I thought it was coming already mixed as in it would last longer than an hour?? does that make sense?? Like I just got goat vaccine, I don't have to mix it and I can draw my how ever many mils and give and put it back in the fridge till next time, with the dry of course, you have to mix it and use it and there goes what 978 vaccines down the drain?? Thank you CL for the instructions I appreciate it!!

I just don't want to waste the rest of the vaccine??? But, I guess I need to find a source for small quantities if that is possible, for now all I could find was the 1000 dose

I'm used to shooting dogs cats and occasional horses, little chicks will be interesting!!

It is easy!!!
And the Marek's does not come any other way.
Sometimes Ultasol has vaccine parties due to the vaccines having so many doses.
A great idea to share & learn.
The Marek's is not stabbed into the bird, but hold the needle parralell (sp?) to the bird's body, insert, and kinda pull up, so the needle never enters the meat, and is just under the skin.
When you hold the chick & apply the alcohol, part the fluff so it is easy to see the skin.
Keep the vaccine refrigged until ready to use.
have everything ready & then haul butt once mixed.
Have a box for the vaccinated, and a helper is nice to have too.
