I think that the people up Pine Creek just have money and this is how they spent it. Isn't that place crazy gorgeous? I know exactly which one you are talking about.

Oh, the eggs you gave me are in the incubator. We will see what we come up with.

I know!! I got on the Byc info page that said to put 1/2 cup of salt in a coffee cup and 1/4 cup of water and place the hygometers in a plastic bag?? let them sit for 8 - 12 hours?? I had plastic containers of course so the hygometers wouldn't get wet, that's what it said to do?? and I sealed the bags??

I got them from several places (hatched myself, from the silkie breeder Marjorie Best, 2 feed stores and 1 hatchery directly. One of the chicks they sent me for free was small from the get go and didn't make it last night. I'm wondering if they have something going on and the chicks brought it home with them because:

a. the chicks were first put in the brooder until I could stick them under the broody...and the first chick to start sneezing was in the brooder
b. the chick was then kept in the coop with the others...where two hens suddenly got sick
c. it was stunted and died at 1 week old having not developed as many wing feathers as its "siblings"

Whatever it is has officially infected everyone but the 4 remaining girls in the coop though, so everyone is being treated with antibiotic and I will be using Oxine AH once it arrives in the mail. Luckily the diarrhea on my GLW has stopped, they've both laid eggs, and nobody has any discharge of any kind...just sneezing/coughing/congestion/rales.

What is it you think they have, and where did you get your last batch of chicks from?

I also have a shipping crate in my backyard I won't be needing if it's of use to anyone.

Trying to figure out how I could get this crate....argh! I am in Lacey with no truck and no one to help me...but I am pondering it!!

You're in Lacey, too? So which bit of Lacey? (I'm on the farm out by SevenOaks).

Hey, Clover! Remember that chick with the open navel? How long does it usually take if they are going to succumb to infection?
