My dark egg layers are living at my mom's. Someday, I will be able to call them her chickens. Maybe after we decide which one of each of the Welsummer and Cuckoo Marans will be coming to join my flock. Anyway, we have exciting news. Today she had 6 for 10. In addition to the 3 that she rescued from a friends coop, she has 3 Welsummers, 3 cuckoo Marans and 1 Delaware.

Today she got 4 new pullet eggs from somebody. They are only just 20 weeks old, so they are starting early. Here is a pic. It shows the four she got today and the one that she found in the run from yesterday. They are much darker than the picture shows. The lightest is actually the top one which is the one from the run. It had to be washed, and some of the brown came off in a couple of places.... That one we think is from the Delaware. The most speckled one is definately from Angie her lovable little Welsummer. We are all so eggcited that the egg basket will be a bit fuller from now on.

And here is proof that the crazy chicken lady of Hoquiam really did have Roos that lived uncaged next to the computer. I took this a few weeks ago and forgot to download it. Archie is the black guy. (I really miss him

They never went into a cage, even at night....

My DH says I am into seed crack. It's a little like chicken crack (scratch). I am into Kamikaze gardening. Put lot of plants in and anything that grows was meant to be. This year I am going to concentrate on what seems to have done really well over the years. I figured out that peonies do very well in the front garden bed. That has taken me only 18 years to figure out. I also want another apple tree. I want a Pink Lady apple. I was looking into it and the trees do very well in very warm climates. So my brain says I shouldn't bother with this apple tree, but the inner me is trying to throw a fit. I really just need to find another heritage tree that is very hardy and likes Western Washington better than a Pink Lady will. I will need to put in more veggies this year. I am thinking about digging up more of the front lawn area. It's the only space that has enough sunlight left, at least I hope so. Does anyone want a Peacock or two; they seem to have extras in the town of Sultan.

I think I am having a weird day, it has involved the dentist. Uf Da

The only criteria is that you raise a flock, are happy and fun, and as crazy as a loon. You seem to fit that just fine. But if you can also whistle in tune, you will secure your place forever. I am hopeless at singing, but even worse at whistling.

I will likely be contacting you about eggs as soon as spring hits and somebody gets broody. I want to try my hand at it too. One more way that this is the perfect fit for me. Everything coming full circle and putting a little bit of rhythm in my life.

Ronnie Roo you are da' bomb!! I will pm later as I would be sooo happy if you would just check in on them on Sunday and make sure they are all still okay.

So on the way home today, I realized I have not made any plans for the bathroom chickens.

So ummm - anyone want a large rubbermade tote with two juvenile chicks in it for a long weekend? I can deliver and pick up.

I can whistle, and I posted the explanation of my online name. I just not very sure about being able to carry a tune either. I do know that it doesn’t stop me from singing or talking to the critters or to myself.

Whistling and Noisy spitting. These are the things that I think I can do well, and I have recommend myself for.

I really need to get a better handle on things.

Sounds good Mike. But if you are talking to me, you do realize I am still 2 hours from Port Townsend, don't you. But I have another idea. You could come stay at the beach and take the family razor clam digging. (I think I remember you mentioning a wife who is with child, and some little ones too???) I could let you know when they have a legal day for that this spring. Or, you could plan to visit the Lady Washington when it is in port here. That is fun too. And of course the beach is nice all by itself too.
