Thank you very well put. I was on the school board for 8 years before I move out to WA. And I know what you are talking about. The teachers need a grading system just like the students. The tenure is not right, If they can't do the job then lets find out why and lets correct it. On the other hand I have seen where parents need more help then the students.

So sorry Heather - hope you're feeling better now. I also hope they were able to get the information they need with conclusive results this time so you do not need to repeat this unpleasant experience!

Also sorry to hear about the incubator - that doggone thing is brand new. I had high hopes for many successful batches from it. Any chance your Christmas decorations are accessible enough that you could check for a fuse? Maybe someone else may know a source for them. I don't have a clue.

oh I love it nice looking guy made up for the bad service!

I am still feeling oozy and sick to my stomach. I ate some saltines and I've drank three bottles of water (dr said to stay hydrated).

I dug out the Christmas lights and DH is home (school is out for the summer break) but the place where the fuse box is located is looking to be impossible to reach??!? It's a shelf about 4" high. DH's hands cannot fit in there and I don't have the strength in mine. So I emailed the guy again and asked how to access it without taking the entire thing apart (which is what DH thinks he'll have to do!) These are supposed to be guaranteed for life (the life of the guy making them)....and I'm NOT happy...it's been really finicky with temps, the three racks are all different temps and the hatching drawer is 3-5 degrees too cold to use properly. If I can't get this fixed quickly and easily, I'll be sending it back for a full refund and saving up for a REAL Sportsman next spring. As of right now, I have three broodies in the coop (maybe four--one of my bantam spangleds is looking like she's wanting to sit)--so all is not lost on the three dozen that were mailed out to me this morning from five different people....unfortunately, two of the broodies are tiny bantams (if I'm counting the Orloff) and one is a Sumatra--not very big. The other is a Light Sussex that I could probably put one dozen underneath...

DH and I were putzing around in the yard yesterday - a trip for some salmon turned into a trip for a new grill. Since we were outside anyway we thought we'd have the babies join us out there. Gryffin was pretty interested in them for a while, but eventually settled down for a nap in the sun next to the X-pen. The chicks are 4 1/2 weeks old now.

SF pullet was enjoying herself so much, she kept rolling in the grass to bask in the sunshine

They were unfazed by his presence. In fact, they were just as interested in him!

I just got a very nice e-mail from Alex's language arts teacher (the one whom I wrote is so great at working with his other teachers at figuring out options to adapt their classwork so he could could take the higher level classes with his IEP). She thanked me for being such a great advocate for him and for making sure he follows through on all his assignments. I'm really glad he got her for a teacher. When she saw his old IQ test scores the first week of school, she fought to have him put in advanced placement for 2 of his classes. I don't think anyone else would have done that - he'd just be sitting in all remedial classes and his grades likely would not have been as good because he wouldn't have found the classes as stimulating. He is in 2 remedial classes, 2 advanced and the rest just regular placement. He did best in his advances classes. She is the one who taught the remedial classes he remained in, and even with those, she adapted them to his learning levels/style.

A bigger question is, exactly WHY did the fuse blow in the first place ?
You should (after this) get a wafer thermosts in there.
You can buy the whole thing on line at Randall Burkey for cheap.
feed Stores carry replacement parts.
What a bummer.
Seems like everyday has been such a trial for you!
Isn't it just light bulbs in that incubator for heat ?
I am trying to figured out why the fuse blew...
Putting a new fuse in just may blow too, unless you find out why the first fuse blew & correct the problem.

I wish. I do have three broodies out in the coop so if worse comes to worse, I can use them to incubate the ones coming in the mail.

mine got shut off for about 12 hours last time. they all hatched. temp drop isnt as bad as a spike. I have faith they will be ok

me too.. they will be ok.

I want to share an egg story with ya.. and maybe you will find it encouraging

I have a friend in Olympia who has calls. I stopped in to say hi on my way home from Chehalis and she had some call eggs that were 10 days along. Well, she is leaving for vacation next week and didn't want them to be newly hatched and in the care of a house sitter.. so she gave them to me to finish incubating and hatching. They traveled in their carton in my car, and so were out of an incubator for several hours. She gave me 8.. 6 hatched and are doing great.

anyway..
BUT that being said.. I hope you get that durn brand new incubator FIXED!! I hope the guy calls you back soon.
