I have no way of knowing where you live in Woodinville, or I'd have been happy to stop by. I needed to go to the feed store and get some feeders. My chicks are getting too big for the little ones I had.

You know, to be honest, I get the patern names mixed up, so I'm not gonna make a fool outta myself, by saying what pattern she is. lol

she is considered an overo, the pattern she shows is splash (which is called overo at APHA). American paint horses are a breed, pinto is a pattern. Paints and quarter horses are still paints and quarters if under 14.2 hands but most people call them quarter or paint ponies. Pony is a size, anything under 14.2 hands is considered a pony, anything over is a horse. everyone interprets it their own way. She is a really pretty girl, in the western world she would just be considered small if under 14.2 and not a pony...cowboys dont ride ponies lol. if she is only a 3 year old expect her to grow a little more.

have fun with her! and then come over here and help me get my monster colt trained lol. we are working on leading. he isnt doing to bad

How big is your colt now? I LOVE working with babies! Ground work is my "thing" when it comes to training horses. Saddle training is up to my Sister and Cousin. We tend to work as a team. lol

We call Nickers a Quarter pony. She's just so little standing next to Prada and Lacy. Tiny compared to red. Ive had her here for about 3 wees now, and she has come a LONG way so far. She WAS terrified of men, was extremely over reactive to presure on the poll, would rear, stomp, kick, and generally be a turd. Her back feet were about 4" longer in the toe then is correct. You couldnt pick up her bac feet without having her try to nock your head off. We wern't able to lead her without a fight... And totally unsocialised with people. Now anyone can pick up all four feet, lead her without any issue, she actually prefers men over women, but is in general an in your pocket kinda pony. Her feet are looing SO much better now as well! She's coming along nicely, and IF she keeps progressing as quily as she has been,
fl.gif
Should be under saddle come late summer.

Prada on the other hand is a complete dream! She is almost ready to go under saddle. I think 2-3 more weeks on the ground, and she will be ready to except a light rider. I will not ride her until she is over 3 yeadrs old, as I am a larger rider and she is still a filly. Plus I need to tae some riding lessons. lol Im o putting around in our field, but Im not comfortable enough to ride the trails unless Im riding my cousins packer. lol I know Gracie will take care of me. That and I would like to particapate more out at Silver Spurs, and was ased to try out next year for the Thunderbird benefit Rodeo drill team. So Im guessing Im gonna be pretty busy this summer.

OK so I will admit I had never heard of the quarter pony. But here it is stupid as it may be. Because see where do MINI horses come in they are less than 14.2 but are not called ponies.
idunno.gif
And as for Overo and Tobiano the way I keep em straight is that I don't like a lot of white (tobiano) so too much and overo are OK !!

The Quarter pony is a breed of pony that is similar to the American Quarter Horse. It stands up to 14.2 hands (58 inches, 147 cm) high and was developed from American Quarter Horse foundation bloodstock and is used today in a variety of western riding disciplines.

tobiano and overo are patterns, overo is somewhat splashy, the white rarely crosses the back. two overos can not produce the pattern tobiano. Overo can range from max white, almost solid white with color somewhere on the horse, to minimal with just a belly spot of white. once knew a horse that had her white spot on her butt cheeks..her registered name was check my cheeks. tobiano is usually blockier patterns. white crossing the topline somewhere, pattern ranging from a small white patch to max white with a colored head. two tobianos can not produce an overo pattern on offspring. tovero...is what you get when you mix the two patterns and can look like one or the other or a wild mix of both patterns. tovero can produce either pattern.
here CR is a pic of a minimal white tobiano. not mine i stole it off a website

It's funny to see the sharp lines of a paint in a pattern and size I tend to think of as POA; I knew a POA who looked just like Nickers, except with the Appie broken-color line between colors, and a sprinkle of bay spots on her blanket. Well, and striped hooves, exposed sclera, et'c.

omg I will take some pics of waylon tomorrow...he is just over 2 months old and he can look me in the eye. his back is elbow height already. he is going to be a big strappin colt. he does have some attitude. shakes his head in irritation when pressure on the halter. but he does give and is starting to walk with me. I left a drag line on him today so he can step on his rope and get used to the pressure, he can be irritated and flip his head all he wants when he steps on the rope lol eventually he will figure it out.

When it comes to that, I like to have some sort of bungy between the lead line and the halter. That way, when they pull, it is softer pressure, and will teach them to give to a lighter pressure. Rather than having just the rope, that will gaive a hard jerking pressure on the halter. This has always worked wonders for me. I do almost the same thing when teaching them to stand tied. Prada was bad at standing tied without pulling... Too and old tube from a bicycle tire, looped it through the tie ring on my trailer, and then let her sit tied to the bungy on the trailer. She no longer rears, gives to the slightest bit of pressure, and almost stands quietly. lol I say almost because she will pace while tied. Prada also will lounge by hand signal alone, or voice, with or without a whip. At least for me anyway, she doesnt respect my sister like she does me.

This K button is driving me nutty... Im constatly going back and fixing words...
