My opinion ONLY --

Birds of the same age, who are pretty close to the same size can be housed together. The breeds you mentioned, BR, SLW, BO - would all be fine in a flock together. I have 8 EE's, 8 RIR's, 4 Stars, 1 BO, 1 SLW and 1 GLW-Roo - things are going along swimmingly, even tho I don't have any ducks.

I personally, would not try and put bantams and large fowl together -- UNLESS --- a bantam roo over LF hens -- maybe.

You are not a nuttie newbie -- unless we all are. Other than CR. He's old.

Stepping on rats is not. There are few to no rats on the dry side of the mtns. I've lived here for 35 yrs -- never seen a rat.

Now I've done it -- rat jinxed my own darn self.

Dave

FYI: I have lived here for over 35 years, and had a wildlife cam & spend most all of my time in the woods, and NEVER have I seen a brown rat like this...this is a warf type rat!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. We had quite a huge population of these and more kinds of rats in E OR & E WA.............the miles & miles of rolling hills of wheat is the big clue.
Where there is oppurtunity, ye shall find rats.

The old North Bend landfill and now the transfer station is less than a quarter mile from me as the crow flies, so we've got rats, all kinds of rats! Wood rats that make huge nests under my riding mower hood - I 'll look out and it seems to suddenly sprout sword ferns overnight! We also have Norway and Roof rats. Other than the rats I've trapped, I've seen no signs of rats in the past 2 weeks, and I have never found a burrow, but they are here!

Birds are singing - I better get back to bed. I hate insomnia, but it is far better than the migraine I woke up with yesterday morning - one of the worst I've ever had! (and just a few weeks ago wasn't I saying I almost never get tham anymore and they are never bad anymore? - this one was so bad that it was not just my head that hurt, when I turned my head I got so dizzy and nauseated the I got the dry heaves so bad that I couldn't inhale without getting bile into my lungs. It was just like being pregnant again!)

That's a good design for starters -- and easy to adjust to 4x4 if you wanted it a bit bigger. It also sits up high enough to provide shade/shelter. There are some pictures of this coop in action. Follow the link in my siggy if you are interested. Very easy to add a run to this set up as well. A 10x4 run attaches easily, and is the perfect size for the 4 birds the coop holds. If desired, this coop can be fitted with wheels to make it a chicken-tractor.

Ughhh....I had a massage yesterday after work and thought I'd go right to sleep last night. WRONG!

It was like it kept me awake? I tossed & turned until about 2:30 when I finally fell asleep and when my alarm went off at 5:30, my eyes were all bright red & bloodshot, LOL It's going to be a LONG day!

But ya still gotta feed em and have feet done wether using them or not.

Ya, SOOO, your point is? How many horse girls out there have problems non horse husbands? They just DON'T get it. It's a guy thing except for the REAL cowboys. I dream of a real cowboy someday. I love DH but being married to a city boy is getting really old.

Oh, heavens....I live in cowboy/cattle country. Quit dreaming - the movies have glamorized cowboys way too much. Now if there were a Sam Elliot or Tom Selleck running around here I would tell you to come on over....but then again, I may not want to share.....

I can't believe this one baby lived. She was just lying there on her side. I propped her head up with a couple of towels because after I would feed her and I would lie her back in the box....the fluids just came back out. I propped her head up so the food would stay in her. She was passing almost straight liquid the first 12-24 hours. I told DD that this one bird was not going to make it but that we caught the rest in time. I always keep going until the animal tells me they have had enough (they die), I don't give up on them. The next day she was sitting up, but head still down. Kept working on her. You see the final result. I still can't believe she lived...she literally had 2.5 legs in the grave - and she only has 2 legs.....
