That's a good design for starters -- and easy to adjust to 4x4 if you wanted it a bit bigger. It also sits up high enough to provide shade/shelter. There are some pictures of this coop in action. Follow the link in my siggy if you are interested. Very easy to add a run to this set up as well. A 10x4 run attaches easily, and is the perfect size for the 4 birds the coop holds. If desired, this coop can be fitted with wheels to make it a chicken-tractor.

Dave

I have a 4X8 raised coop inside of an 8X12 roofed run already that DH just completed a couple of months ago. I just enjoy looking at slightly smaller coops as I entertain the idea of possibly adding a few more chickens in the future which would really get me in trouble and not be kosher with the city and yada yada yada. A 3X4 or 4X4 with attached run would enable me to keep a few more breeds I'm interested in. Can't stop a girl from dreaming though. That's how I got this coop in the first place!

Thanks!
I actually did not know they were close.
The biggest deal is cost.
Boers are more popular & easier (cheaper) to come by.
I actually (if I get any) will contact the goat rescue here in Western washington, there is alot of goats looking for homes, so when the time comes, I will do that first.
But I did book mark both links!!

I agree the Kikos are MUCH more expensive!! Although for your climate I guess they are well suited, over here, Boers do very well they tolerate the heat and do well on little pasture. I have had mine as weed eaters for a year now and I love their personality!! This little girl is a kick!! Never thought about a goat rescue?? Does anyone know how long empty nest lasts?? lol! I think that's why I go through these stages of wanting baby animals?? It started two years ago when I left Wy and my 18 yr old son behind!! He didn't want to come with me and I couldn't make him, but when we bought this property the next thing you know, I'm getting baby everything!! pigs, goats, now it's chicks!!! Terry thinks it's all in my head, but with him gone so much I think it's staying busy and something needing me?? Anyway, it is what it is I guess!!

I know all about empty nest syndrome. My daughter isn't out on her own yet but I knew I was in trouble before she left for college and my heart was already aching. Within a month of her being gone I joined BYC and began a new obsession and now look what her going away to school has done. 4 chickens, 6 chicks, an incubator, big coop, brooders, rabbit cage, small kit coop for quarantine, countless supplies and feed. DD even said a few months ago, "Mom I know you really miss me and everything but you have really done your best to fill your nest, literally. But I fully support what you're doing." Thank goodness my family understands me! Nothing wrong with a little overactive nurturing gene Pette - there could be worse things!

I saw that one and debated making it insead of buying the zappers, but it would bother me if I went out there and the rat was still swimming, they can swim for hours!

I made one of those rat traps for here. I used a pvc pipe instead of a soda can, turned more readily. I didnt catch any here but I used to catch them with that same trap a long time ago. It will also work with a floating peice of styrofoam with food in teh bottom. They jump down to get the food but the styro cant support them and they drown eventually. I ahve seen those traps so full that rats bodies piled deep and they started to escape from the mass of dead rats inside.

I dont know why but that did not work here int he city. Perhaps they have learned it is dangerous to jump in near water or theyve seen it before here id ont know. Maybe I got some scent on it. Maybe they dont like the bait I was using?

OK, OK maybe not only a cowboy but at least a country boy. One that doesn't rool his eyes and complain because I've wanted to have a farm/ranch my whole life. Thing is, he knew what I wanted from the day we met and I've stayed true to myself but feel guilty everyday for it. He on the other hand.......

I love Sam Elliot!

Wanted to apologize to all for getting the Castle stormed yesterday. I guess I might have used the P word but in my opinion it was all VF fault! LOL Stuff was really bugging me but there are other forums better suited to the subject. Problem is this is the only forum I've joined. Sorry, won't happen again.

Well, if you keep your luggage packed in public, people won't have to use the P word! Right?
