Thanks I did not know the Russians were the taxi.

Well this will be my last post for a while. Packing is getting to the end and we will be leaving right after lunch. Cool part is that I am also taking my non-ferrous and have enough that it will pay the trip so it will be a win win. Been trying to drizzzzle here all morning but now it is getting lighter so maybe the weather will be nice but not too hot!!

Ya'll have a good weekend and don't make it too hard for me to catch up when we get back.

Thanks!
I just drape the netting over the pvc and use those girlie hair clamp thingies to hold the netting down at the bottom of the netting. Then, when I want to get in, I just move the clip/clamp thing. So far it keeps the birds out and the bunnies haven't figured it out either.

BNF- We had some left over geotextile fabric from the french drain we put in. That's the felty stuff they put down on roads before they put rock. I had to use a hammer to get the landscape staples to go through it. It keeps the weed covered. I ran out and had to get the Home Depot version which is shiney woven plastic stuff and is not as good. But a roll of the GT for roads is like 15 ft wide and 600 ft long. Oh and $500 bucks! Didn't need quite that much.
We are planning on putting rock that matches the retaining wall we put in the front yard and driveway over the GT around the Leyland cypress trees. Just waiting on a friend to get his dump truck running so that we don't have to pay the $200 delivery fee!
I also wanted something on the paths that are right next to the garden beds but I haven't figured out what to use. Gravel? Bark? Hay? All have pros and cons. Any suggestions?????

That is a beautiful garden!

Thanks! I hope we have an indian summer so this years will have a chance to do as well!

So I told my husband the other day that I was getting rid of all but 2 cockerals. And he said to me. I can handle only having 2 chickens! LOL I quite litterally laughed at him and told him he misunderstood me! Im getting rid of young roosters NOT the hens!

Silly silly man!

But the official number of cockerals is 11. I was going to keep the largest black ameraucana, until I took a real close look at him. He's not pure.

has the nicest body type, and very large, but has red and gold leaing through the hackles and saddle feathers. So he must be a BCM/Ameraucana. So instead I will be keeping a smaller black Ameraucana cockeral, and my Wheaton boy. Dropping my numbers from 29 to 20! All the girls loo much less crouded with all the extra cockerals moved out!

There is however one blue Ameraucana that I am not sure on the gender... So I'll hold onto her for a while longer in the hopes that she is really a she. lol

Ok update is done. Now I gotta go to moms and use the drier...

Update on the flicker that I found in trouble in my backyard last evening - I took it to Valley Animal Hospital in Auburn because they take in wildlife rescues. He had just been resting while I had him, taking drops of pedialyte, but not showing much activity. When the vet picked him up, he demonstrated that he had a good amount of fight left in him and both wings seemed to be functioning. She looked for obvious injury but couldn't find any. She did say he appeared young as he still had plenty of down left on him. She was going to begin subcutaneous hydration and see if she could get him to perk up a little. She appeared optimistic. It was a great relief to me. I've had enough bird trauma this week.

Getting ready to head out tonight. I am going to see The Monkees at the Pantages theater downtown. We also have tickets to the Meet and Greet afterwards with cocktails, snacks, gifts, photographer. I am SO getting my photo taken with Mickey Dolenz.

Oh, and I meant to say THANK YOU to all of you for helping to identify the bird and offer suggestions for his care. I did put him under my brooder light as I attempted to keep him hydrated and would have tried to feed him if I'd had to keep him longer.
You all had good, productive and positive ideas and I really appreciate the help. I was feeling pretty lost.
Thank you again - you guys are pretty wonderful.

Glad everything worked out! I hate feeling helpless in a situation where an animals life is at stake and I don't have a clue as how to handle it.

Took down the small temporary coop that I had in the run for the young ones. Everyone is in the main coop now, had to help the young ones into it at night for a couple of days but they got the hang of it. I have a corner roost on one side that the older girls use and a two rung ladder roost on the other for the 5 youngsters. Everyone seems to do well and stay on their own side. At least for now. They have been sharing the run for a couple of weeks now and the "babies"(16-18 wks) were outgrowing the temporary coop. So I just went for it and put them in the big coop. I have to say integrating them in stages and over a long period of time has made things much easier and less stressful for everyone, including myself. I did get rid of my two most aggressive older girls before starting it, but it was worth it. My Marans peeled back the scalp of my EE cockerel a while back before I got rid of him and my black Ameraucana went broody every 15 eggs or so and was really mean. So I decided to cut my losses and my stress and sold them to a guy who wanted to add more pure breeds to his breeding program. They were pet quality but from Cree farms and he was just looking for egg color. Hope they make him happy.

Have a great evening all!!

Well, looks like I got here just in time, again!!!
Mickey Dolenz..............really??????????
Cool...take the last train to Clarksville......

We are still working our fannies off here.
And Monday we gewt another load of lumber.
Still have not gotten any lumber price quotes from CR...nothing.
So headed for the hardware here in So bend.

Anyways, sub floor lumber comes Monday..
In the mean time, we are diddling with odd jobs, finishing this, fixing that, moving birds.
I wanted to put all my black Ameraucana in one pen and the Blues, wheaten & blue wheaten in another.
I wanted a few white ameraucana pullets,to add to the black.

Dark Cornish are doing great.
Javas are doing great.
White rocks, Partridge Rocks, and Barred Rocks doing great.
Buff Rocks doing great~~
French Cuckoos doing great~~~

And the Cornish X meatballs are on pasture, and doing so fantastic....I am giving broiler max in their water, and on pasture they are flying & running, and hardly eating feed, which is Flockraiser & crushed corn.
They even roost on a perch at night, instead of sitting in their dregs on the floor in front of the feeder like commercial cornballs do~~~~~~~~~

Pettec, what did you feed yours?
Mine have lots of sun & fresh air & pasture..what you feed them, is what goes into the meat, and that goes into you!
