Well, the WA thread was almost hard to find this morning.
I decided I better post something!
How is everyone?
Off, out & about with the great weather?
I am now worrying about the wildfire season...remember the nasty summer & grass fire pics that RFF posted a few times??

Our uncut grass is about 4 feet tall..
even mowed, it is thick & dry on the ground, needs to be baled!
So, with not much happening here, I am off to do laundry.
be back later guys!!

Before I go..here is some pics of the Cornballs on pasture...having a great time!
Sorry the pic is dark, I have yet to figure out how to put the camera on 'dusk'.
It was sunny, but not enough it seems..I guess I need to read the book...

It has been summer here!
Except when we have local normal coastal fog, like yesterday (and sometimes almost drizzly) we have had 70s, 80s and a few 90 degree days.
Our little place is on a south facing hill, so it gets HOT here.
On the otherside of the hill I imagine the residents can be in shadows and a cool 68-70.
Glad I am on the sunny side.

I came back to post a notice about a show coming up on Sunday at 8 PM, on CWN (cable news NW) here it is on Comcast channel 2.
It is about battery commercial laying 'farms' and how the hens are treated supposibly differently than "before"
It looks to be very interesting, mark the date & time, or look for CWN on your cable provider...bye guys!!

Remember, SUNDAY AT 8 PM...CWN .........

Well, good, glad you liked it. The Ground Beef is so unlike what gets sold in stores as to be unrecognizable as the same stuff, isn't it?

OMG it is awesome, we most definetly want more!
Almost a shame to use it mixed as in taco meat for example...one needs to prepare it and eat it like a steak...awesome !!

Getting more of the ground beef* is a matter of connecting up with my sister, any time. It's the other stuff that take planning. Unfortunately, this time of year everything takes planning: they've got hay, and the third run of luau/BBQ pigs (people order ahead for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day), and, oh, yeah, Thurston County Fair coming up. We put together The Nephew's invitation letter yesterday for the Junior Livestock Sale: his piggies are going to finance his college education.

Somebody I knew from 4-H asked me the other day if I was going to get into showing poultry. Ugh, no! I showed beef and dairy cattle for ten years, and then open class beef until I had kids (mostly as forced labor during the fair itself, since I was going to college/had summer archaeological field school/had paying jobs); my younger sister has only taken off the time between her son being born and being old enough for 4H: she started going to fairs when I was nine. I managed to break that addiction, am not risking it any more than I risk watching soap operas after scheduling my life around them in high school.

*The quality is equally a matter of who does our meat processing, in our case Home Meats in Kamilche: great people, with absolutely pristine facilities and technique.

Yeah, the grass is scary; I'm going to have to find somebody with a live mower to come cut it. Bacchus neatly eats every smidgen of green and all the seed-heads but leaves the straw behind dry on the ground but still connected to the roots. I'm cutting as much as I can every day for the chickens, but there's so much residual ground moisture that it comes back strong.
