I have the worlds best broody. She is a hatchery EE. All the eggs I put under her hatched, each 30 minutes apart. She is the best mom too. She hated being in a cage with the chicks, so she is in a coop with a crazy rooster and a bunch of almost-ready-to lay pullets. Nobody dares come near her chicks! They are a month old now, and sometimes some are in the coop at the same time others are in the run. Momma can't be both places at once, and she is finally feeling comfortable with them not being constantly in her eyesight. Even when mom is not watching all her chicks, all the pullets and the roo still give them a wide berth. Momma Hen lets DD and I handle the chicks without a fuss. It used to be that she had to see them if we held them, but she does not even care about that anymore. I tried putting a few other chicks in the coop that are nearly a month older than her babies, Mom was fine with them, she did not chase them off like she did when I tried sneaking them under her when they were day-olds. She treats them much nicer than she does the pullets, but her chicks who are much younger and half the size chase them off like their mom chases the pullets! The poor cochins were left cowering in the corner! I had to make the cochins their own little coop. It is inside my adult cochin run, so hopefully one day they will be able to mingle.

I can host one at my house this week, or at the North Bend Farmers Market on Thursday. Thay have a band that plays from 6-8pm, good food, and day-old strawberries for making jam.

Speaking of jam, what are the prices for jam making product where everyone lives? Prices here are outrageous, even on sale. I just looked at QFC:

$4.99 1 small box of sugar-less pectin
$2.99 12 wide-mouth lids (flat part only)
$2.19 12 regular mouth lids (flat part only)
$11.99 1 case of 12 x 12 oz "quillted" jars with lids.

These hideous prices are SALE prices. You'd sink a couple bucks into each jar of jam before you even get the fruit in! I went on vacation in Idaho last summer and paid half that with no sale!

I don't need any more jars, but for anyone who lives where these items are cheaper, I'll gladly send you some $ to fill a flat-rate postage box with lids and pectin, and I'll even send back a couple jars of jam.

Tragedy - I just read in the news that a truck in Idaho spilled 14 million bees and a bunch of honey! They were being transported from CA to SD when the driver verred onto the shoulder, tipping the hives. Emergency responders sprayed all the bees with foam so the workers would not get stung. What a shame. Why didn't they call out bee-keepers? Maybe many of them could have been saved.

Well I thought I was finally done with ALL my add on's
