A fifth just hatched.

There are only two left. They were under Carmen. I'll give them an extra couple of days since Ginger was so irresponsible.

yeah it was great --

DH drove us down after all, turns out we had another couple of errands to run on the way back

interesting animals showed up at the auction --- one little bantam, I swear, looked just like a miniature owl ...
ep.gif

the goat was amusing
the kittens were cute as, well, ... kittens .....

the peacocks were unusually colored, very loud, hardly fitted into the cages

one white dove/pigeon got completely loose, flew around the auction area, out of reach, and finally spotted the 3" gap between top of fencing and ceiling -- so over he/she went, and off into the wild blue yonder ....

I drooled over some spangled ones -- Hamburgs?? --- and a cochin cross with millefleur type plumage

but I HAVE AS MANY CHICKENS AS I NEED NOW --- in fact probably a few too many

good chat about feed, types of feed, prices of feed, additives to feed .... and which brands get cleaned up pronto, which get left on ground

(my lot is NOT liking the Purina that DH bought; when I told him, get generic/store-brand game bird feed, he talked to the store guys and came home with Flock Raiser .... and my flock prefers wild grass seed to THAT )

I should leave those pullets alone more often

we came home to .. not one,,,, but TWO eggs
yippiechickie.gif

one a slightly more olive one than the minty green ones I've been getting
one essentially pale blue (DH said it was GRAY) -- with the slightest touch of green to it

both the same size .. no double yolk ones today

instead of utilizing the ex-litterbox nest box in the coop (which is where the eggs were laid so far), they used the VariKennel in the run, that I just put shredded paper into, yesterday --- there is another one in there too, a larger ex-kitty-litterbox, the paper nest material in there was pushed around, but no egg

yes I repurpose as well as recycle ---

It WAS a very nice relaxin' visit

very low key! Nice to see you guys~and yep, Broody, I think we are a pretty neat lot of folks

I DID not look through the auction poultry.. no temptations needed. Came back with three less roo's though. lol!

Candy--I use two big ol' litter boxes in my henhouse, they really like them for nesting in, they work great. They're double stacked, and then there is a nest on top of those.. THAT is the FAVORITE egg site.

What an interesting and pleasant day. Met with jbear, broody and Kaneke at yard birds had a very nice visit. Sold my kennel to broody. This was the one bad thing DW needed to eat lunch and said she would like KFC, That place is getting kind of pricey for what it is. So then on the way to the scrap yard a guy pulls along side and yells do you want to sell that feeder? Sure let me pull over. So I pull over he looks at it and says how much. I told him (my standard line) make me a reasonable offer. He looks and says well I only have $17. I said well you now have a 10' feeder to put in that 6' pick up. Then when I get the scrap off I had more than I thought so that was a nice surprise. Plus out of that load I gave my neighbor 6 rolls of new zealand wire and a bunch of tighteners, and helped that other guy by making him a good deal on a feeder. Yes it was a very nice day and I was able to help others too. Just wish jbear could of done better selling her birds here.

Well, DH now knows why I want to renew our lease. I resisted telling him, thinking I could talk him into resigning regardless (and he is not at all psyched about getting chickens, so I figured it would be worse if I let him in on the details). But aside from the weak reasoning that it will keep our rent from going up for a year, there's not any other reason to resign when our current lease says we can go to month-to-month starting in September. I guess he gets to decide if he wants to be nice or not (and believe me, he hasn't been particularly nice lately). He'd better make up his mind soon so I'll have time to cancel my chick order if need be.

So, when is there going to be a slightly more northern get-together?

I would get some baby bird formula at the pet store, and then I would try to find an animal rescue place or vet that would take it. I got some formula at Pet Smart and it had directions on how to feed a rescued baby bird. But depending on how old they are, you may have to feed like every 20-30 min even at night.

Obviously you have never been to/around or through Tonasket. We have no pet store - maybe at the feed store. We have no animal rescue. None of the local vets are licensed for wildlife (a robin is wildlife) and won't take it. I don't know if you (Danielle) could get ahold of The vets that used to run (can't think of their names this second - Don Lay?) the clinic on East Side - Animal Hospital (before they sold to Carol Downing)....anyway....they are the only locals licensed to take in wildlife. Oh, also....The closest Pet Smart or Petco is 2 hours away....well 2.5 for Tonasket. Sorry....I just got a good laugh from this as we are so out in the sticks. I mean no harm.

LOL....sometimes you just have to skip to the end. apologize to everyone and tell the if there was something directed to you....PM you. It is sometimes hard to keep up.

Oh....BTW everyone....I am trying to get caught up....I have some 10 pages to read. Work is great. Kids are doing great. Chickens are doing great. Garden is mediocore. Other then that....all is well.
