My QH was allergic to certain types of flies, and he would always break out in hives, but just on the left side of his body. Weird.

Well by way of process of elimination, the newest thing for this horse would be higher levels of alfalfa... Her Timothy that she gets is a mix of 70% timothy and 30% alfalfa... Its got to be the alfalfa... Ive never seen this mare swell up like this before, she's pretty tough, and healthy as well... I'm keeping an hourly picture log of her hives to show the vet how this has all progressed throughout today.

Everyone else is doing just fine, no swelling, bumps, heat, nothing... Just poor Lacy.

Glad they are doing well! Now that they are not queens of the coop, they have their traps shut. Go figure.

Last night the glass patio table shattered, sending bits of tempered glass EVERYWHERE. I have a EE that enjoys flying over my coop fence to forage, so I had to go back an clip her wings to keep her in her yard. Lots of bright and shiny things to eat and I am afraid she might give the glass a try. I have done one cleaning to get the glass up, but I have tons more to go. The patio table was about 5 foot x 5 foot.

Oh, good, something else to worry about: glass patio tables shattering!

Life is so very unfair, never seems to come up with a good "well, you don't have to worry about that" although plenty of bad "well, you don't have to worry about that any more, because here it is!"

It is possible that I am in a bad mood having sspent three hours on the Wyandotte coop with no progress beyond sunburning the backs of both ears

Just gotta pop in and say. . . . My little fig tree is producing figs for me!!

I haven't even had it a year now, but because of ideal conditions in the greenhouse, it's popping out little black figs. Sooo exciting.

No really competition is good and I welcome it.

Well, I have not done a whole lot of it, I was just using that as an example. I will show you the first piece I have ever done, when I get down to my mother's house and take pictures of it. I will be down there tomorrow/Wednesday.

Last week Kaneke brought me 10 of her EE eggs so I could let my broody light Sussex hen set on them. This will be the first time I've ever tried using a broody before and as far as I know it's her first time actually sitting on fertile eggs. Day 6 and she's been dedicated so far, but we've had our first casualty. DD just called from home to tell me. Apparently she left the coop for food, water and a stretch, but an egg stuck to her bottom and rolled down the ramp, cracking in the process. DD has put it aside so I can inspect it later tonight and see if it was developing.

I did read an article about utilizing broodys, but haven't researched a lot. Those of you who have had broodys do your hatching, do you always separate them from the general population? This hen is the queen of the coop so I don't think she'd let anyone near her charges. I have heard if you move them to private quarters or a broody box that it should be done at night time, have any of you done that?
I do have the small coop and run if I wanted to fully integrate the 13 week olds into the big coop now. They've all been free ranging with the older hens for weeks now without any further incidents. Just not sure if I should move the broody now at the risk that she'll give up sitting on the eggs or if I should wait until chicks hatch and then move them all.
Any thoughts or opinions from the WA folks?

I always seperate my broodies from the rest, in a quiet area where she has her own food & water close by, and ajoined to a run where they can all go outside when that day arrives, enclosed with 1/2" poultry netting so the chicks cannot get out.

DH is coming home, should be nearing Portland about now.
I have finished the Otters & worked on a steelhead all day, and it is now done..so I am taking a break & came on to say HI!!!!!!!

I have taken a few other breaks & cleaned poop trays & fed/watered...let the Turkeys go out in the big field & noticed my blue berries are ripening, so I gotta go pick them soon.
Also picked another 1 gal bag of snow peas, I cannot believe they are still going, and I am not watering them!
More zuchinni, and one was huge got cut up in several pieces for the chicks...

hAD A GREAT BAR-BE-QUE LAST NIGHT ALL ALONE, WITH A CORNISH CROSS WE BUTCHERED (ONE OF 28)
mAN OH MAN HOW TENDER & GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oH NO, tHE caps button got me aGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok...Now I had to go out & put bigger hunks of cardboard on the mammoth pumpkins so they do not get sun burned....
And tomorrow it is Roma green beans picking day...and I think I will freeze most..
I do not like having my jarred food in the shed, as freezing temps can bust the jars.

Also wanted to tell some of you who want to learn to can, that you do not need a canner to can jams.
My Mother (78 yo ) does her jam bubbling hot by the recipe, ladels into jars, cleans the rim, adds lids & rings tight, and inverts them on her counter.
Kerr has this recipe on their web site (I think) anyways, after a while the lids suck right down...but do not do this with any other food.

Well, guess I will go walk around & collect eggs, gotta move or I get "Stifitis"

Are you gonna be any where near me? I better not feed the dog tonight and lock things up.
