The guy who sells honey at the local farmers market had a lot of trouble with bears.

He now surrounds his hives with plenty of hotwire which he periodically strings bacon over the ones at bear-nose height. He said unless the bear touches the wire with his nose, it doesn't deter them. He gets about 8 months of bear-safe bees each time he uses the bacon.

Heh. I just got an email from our landlord, cc'd to DH. She said that she had discussed renewing the lease with me, and that we had the option to sign on for another year at the current rate or go month to month with a $50/mo increase. She did not say anything to me about any increase. I would be annoyed if it weren't for the fact that I'm trying to get him sign the lease (which the homeowner wanted if we are to get chickens). I wonder what he's going to have to say about this...

Anyone want to do a Blackberry picking party? Make a day of it with a picnic? They should be ripe here very soon.

They're already ripening over here.

The chickens are LOVING the fact that their pasture includes lots of good blackberry bushes, and boy are the loaded this year! (lots of 2nd year canes)

I am well aware the yare here but this one 20' from the front porch is a bit of a surprise. Worries me about my bee hives. I guess I better hook up a hot wire out there.

Well, This is one of those moments when I wonder why BYC, out of all the BB sites I belong to, doesn't have a delete key. Hi, folks, well, it's not fb, which is the worst Kludgy mess I've ever used, but no delete? How very odd.
