however, you might check with neighbors ... so long as the noise isn't EARLY or continual, they may be okay with it even if it's not according to the statutes

actually my hens, singing the egg song, or complaining about someone hogging the nest box, or just letting off steam, are quite a bit louder than young Roopert ...

and at times they are noisier for longer, than he is

keep him busy, keep him moving, keep boredom and territoriality to a minimum, and he'll be quiet most of the time; and keep him in a well-sound-insulated place in the early morning, because he WILL crow when it's only faintly dawn

I've got the Foy's auto opener. It was an indulgence and DH griped at me like heck about it but I love ours. I did get the solar power option.

Don't count on it. Some of mine started off quiet as well.

Oh well...was worth asking about...and thanks to Ogress & Kaneke for your replies

He does have a home to go to; I just really like him and the idea of having a boy out there to protect the girls. Probably won't happen until we move.

I did speak to one neighbor that is closest - I was concerned because the girls fight over the nest and one girl's egg song in particular (like Kaneke's girls

) and wander around the yard moaning forever while they wait...much louder than the boy ever has been. Her response was that she didn't even realize we had chickens until she saw them over the fence. Wow!

Almost time for ladies night

Hope you all have a great evening!

Oh, there's definitely a break-in period on the voice. Even with Ian and Bjorn giving him examples, Elvis had a few weeks of "oh, dear, that sounds like a baby rabbit screaming" before he started to really get his chops down. Today he was really hitting it, in the sense of crowing about eight times in a row for no good reason.

You must be talking about the one that has (or did last time I was there) the view point that had arrows showing the different Mt's. Hood, Adams, St Helens and I think Rainier. That stretch just before you drop down the canyon by the old sheep ranch and headed to Stonehenge and Maryhill Museum/Castle. Right on down to the big creek and over to Biggs Junction. Yes I have no idea where you are talking about.

I have no clue where this is either - but the view point shows (from N to S), Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, and Hood. If you continue (on 97) to the south side of the big creek, there is another location that shows (N to S); Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters and one more that I can never remember...

Some one has an electric drill contraption and another used a curtain pulling device. One guy even had an auto antenna that he might have yanked out of someone's car.

I was thinking I might even be able to string a long string to my kitchen. Hahahahaha. But I really want one so I could go on vacation for the weekend.

Depending on how much you want to spend there are a couple of sponsors of BYC and they have automatic doors. Just look under sponsors at the top of the page. The one I am looking at is the pullet shut automatic door. It's a little pricey but Rob Ludlow highly recommends it. Chickencoopdoors.com, and add-a-motor.com I think.

Neat.
I was looking around and stumbled into add-a-motor.com
They have a coop door opener #D-20 for $110 inc shipping.
I don't mind paying this if I don't have to go out in the evenings, in the winter.
