Good morning all

It's a bit of a foggy morning here in Silverlake...odd for August lol However its going to be a lovely day... have a day off, hubby is at work so its just me and the cats and chickens and I love it!!! Don't get me wrong I love having him around and would hate if he were gone but...it's nice having the place to myself for a while <snicker> I got to sleep in and everything!

The girls enjoyed a midmorning treat of chard and apricots, and baked potato skins from last night's dinner. They are very happy and bokking and chirping contentedly in the run atm. It's so nice to have the window open and just hear them murmuring quietly to each other out there. They are such a joy to watch. Wish I could do it more often....I can feel my blood pressure dropping just listening to them. The kitties are all in the room with me, lounging over the desks, cat trees, and hubby's chair

and purring up a storm cos they have someone home during the day with them.

I have a chicken thawing, and going to roast this lovely bird this afternoon and make stock for tomorrow's dinner. I have decided I am making chicken and dumplings this weekend with homemade stock as the base. I have some thighs thawing as well for dinner tonight...I might just make baked thighs with chicken couscous and roasted veg. I am getting hungry just thinking about it!! I love to cook..so this will be a fun day for me...and Richard should enjoy it too...he has no idea how lucky he is I tell you

It's going to be a wonderful day!

Hope the rest of you all have a good one too....

surprisingly quiet out back today, usually there is some waak waak waak grumbling from Christina and Anitra, wanting Phoebe and/or Deirdre to get OUT of the nest box so they could get in

but Bruce shooed them out to the chicken tractor early today ... even Roopert is not crowing ! tractor is in a great big patch of clover, plantain, dandelion, and Japanese yellow clover ... lots for them to chomp on and dig for ...

I need to get some more egg cartons so I can sort these eggs out and decide who's laying what .... but I'm getting five eggs almost every day now and sometimes all six give me a present ...

the eggs I gave Dana to put under her Light Sussex broody, should be about the halfway point now --- we've had two casualties so down to eight now, last I heard .... should be some nice blue-egg-laying EEs unless of course they're all cockerels ....

meanwhile, back to the computer ...

I swore I wouldn't, but I did the mini-van thing for a few years. I had a Saturn, but right after the C-section, it hurt to get in and out of something that sat so low, so I rented a van and then I bought a station wagon and later a van. I have to say, the van was very well thought out for a family with kids; but I am glad I don't have it anymore.

Yeah... we have the CR-V now. DH is selling his truck for a sedan/station wagon for the secondary car.

eta... still not ready for the minivan

there is one thing a Dodge Caravan does really well ---
provides lots of windows for guests/tourists to see the local sites

also it, and the Isuzu Trooper, are MUCH easier for elderly/arthritic/injured/other-challenged people to get into and out of

I used to hate to try to get into the old Acura Integra with any sort of grace at all, usually I FELL into the seat, banging my shins on the door, or twinging the upper thigh muscle .. those low sporty cars are fine for twenty- and thirty-somethings, but ....

oh, another thing the Caravan does well .... hauls LOTS of chickens, chicken accoutrements, plywood, 2x4s, pipes, fence wire, etc

(of course you have to take the back seats out but then, WHAT ROOM !! )

actually when we have the Maui house rented out, we store our personal stuff IN the Caravan in the garage, with the mattresses on top and more or less rat proofed ... amazing how much stuff you can pack in it when you don't need rear visibility

Yes and you can have for free. But I don't deliver. I will have her bags packed just let me know how soon you can get here!!!! BTW She closes the doors gathers eggs and feeds and waters too. All of course when she remembers and or decides to.

I was kinda hoping for the kind that was solar powered. LOL

Some one has an electric drill contraption and another used a curtain pulling device. One guy even had an auto antenna that he might have yanked out of someone's car.

I was thinking I might even be able to string a long string to my kitchen. Hahahahaha. But I really want one so I could go on vacation for the weekend.

Hopefully you'll only need it for a short time - we got ours when my daughter turned 1 and my son was 4 and I needed room for strollers and cribs along with the luggage when we'd visit family in CA. We had it for 5 years. It was useful for camping trips and play-dates and lots of other stuff.

Now I drive a pilot (only because the transmission went out in the van in front of a used car dealership while we were driving back from California the day before school started for the kids up here - we had the 4 of us, our big dog, 4 bicycles, our luggage and several bags of obsolete textbooks that mom always picks up for free when the library gives them away. Few choices at the used car dealership that would hold all our stuff - a Silverado, a Mercedes SUV and the pilot.

DH drives a VW bug that he runs on Biodiesel. He just drives it from home to the bus stop and then takes the bus in to work. At 6'4", DS no longer fits in the back seat. DH needs a bigger can but won't get one. I'd like a smaller car, but DD plays the harp so I have to drive her and the harp to lessons every week.

We got a Jeep Cherokee when my DS was born and boy was that the best car. 4 WD so we went and got diapers even in the snow. The back is our changing table and it fits my really big stroller with all the baby needs adn groceries no problem. Wish they would make more of the same car, I would buy another. And it was AMERICAN!
