Thanks Velvett! Ya know, I think I told ya about the young BLRW pullets but you said you wanted birds that were laying or any day. Next time you come this way look me up. I'm sure I will have something for you. Maybe even a few Blue Wheaten Ameraucana! Did the other girls resume laying for you?
C4G, The Black Orpington splits are the result of Exhibition Blacks bred to Lavender Orpingtons. The Lavender is a recessive color so they come out Black but when bred together will produce a percentage of much improved Lavenders. We do that to improve 'type' on the Lavenders since their type still needs a little work. One of those project things! If you want small and fluffy I also have Bantam Cochins. Mille Fleur and Black and Blue Mottled splits. The split thing is the same idea as with the Orpingtons.
CGG, do you have any Sussex or Coronation Sussex pullets that will be for sale? They are my favorites, but didn't think I would find any of those. Remember I said I love old fashioned looking speckled hens, especially black and white. I probably won't be having any roos because, although we have an acre, we do have neighbors that might object, so I won't be breeding. So I wouldn't be able to breed for the Lavendars
Can I PM or email you in a week or so for more info? Thanks
Well, you don't have to breed for the Lavenders. You can just enjoy them for the Orpington. They are great layers! But, yes, they are just black but they are a gorgeous black. I will have Coronation Sussex pullets as soon as they are old enough to sex. I have been breeding them but have put the breeding flock for up for sale on Craigslist as I had to make a choice and chose to continue with the Black/Blue Copper Marans. The new flock is just starting to mature and need their own coop and I am not going to build another pen and coop so decided on the Coros to go. I will keep a few of my best hens for my layer flock but 3 hens and the roo are going so these chicks I have will be the last of them. Yes, PM any time!
