I'm very interested in this too. We have three different waterers for the girls, and the plastic one always seems slimy - even though I wash it daily.

Our plain metal 5 gallon chicken watering can does not seem to hold water after a few freezes outside.

The one watering can that is drained daily is the chick metal bottom with the mason jar top - again cleaned on a daily basis. I actually switch the mason jars out every other day & put them through the dishwasher.

But the very favorite water source is...the toy dump truck filled with rain water

I know what you mean we have large waters all over the place and ours goes to the goats water tanks and drink out of them. I hate it becasue once in a while they fall in. Yes they die and it kills us. We are trying to figure out what we can do to put something in the take for them to land on and fly out but nothing yet.

Canning hordes of green beans today, all is ready & now I get to go pick & process hot pack at least 14 quarts a day for who knows how long...last year these same beans (Roma Pole) gave me several cases of yummy green beans...love them!!
I also have 10 feet of Roma pole "Gold Marie" yellow romas...and they are about 12" long on top of being meaty & wide...so there will be a few cases stocked up of those too......then we work on the house some more.
I guess I better take some pics of how far we have gotten on the house, huh????????
Salmon are starting to come in...Chinook & Sockeye, Steelies too............and a few Dawgs.
So every few days we escape to the river & troll the Bay.
That is our "get away" and it is wonderful!!!

Later all!!

Oh, and the Steelhead painting will be sent to the printers after the show, and so I will have prints.
Prints for that will be around $50 each, unframed, I think.
BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She looks like a fox!!!

Good name for your farm!!

She is a finish spitz, pretty much full grown at about 1.75 years old now. She loves the goats, we are hoping she will be good with the chickens too.

Hey renart, you wouldnt want to add a rooster to your flock would you? I have a black Ameraucana roo that is looking for a new place to call his home. He's great with older kids and adults, but is way to interested in my little girl. So he needs iether a stew pot, or a new home.

(Going nuts trying to decode the turkey ribbons; love the salmon!)

Turkey ribbons are:
Champion in class, first, and Grand Champion and the last is Special Award .
So, they won first place, then took champion in their class, then went on to take grand Champion of ALL the poultry in the show, and then got the Special Award.
I was soooooo surprised!!!
Blew me away!!

Nice set of awards, and well deserved from the photos.

I look at them, and read of people showing, and have a tiny glimmer of nostalgia, but on the whole I'd rather be hung by my thumbs than ever exhibit at a fair again, even a little one is so very much work.

what about putting an upside down plastic "milk crate" in the water trough?

I got some birds from CCG just a bit ago. She's got a nice place and takes good care of her flock. In fact when I saw her post I almost ran and called her to claim the BLRW's

You should get those! and a Barne! and then some BCM's and then some EE's and then some RIR's and then .. and then ... heh:}

Thanks Velvett! Ya know, I think I told ya about the young BLRW pullets but you said you wanted birds that were laying or any day. Next time you come this way look me up. I'm sure I will have something for you. Maybe even a few Blue Wheaten Ameraucana! Did the other girls resume laying for you?

C4G, The Black Orpington splits are the result of Exhibition Blacks bred to Lavender Orpingtons. The Lavender is a recessive color so they come out Black but when bred together will produce a percentage of much improved Lavenders. We do that to improve 'type' on the Lavenders since their type still needs a little work. One of those project things! If you want small and fluffy I also have Bantam Cochins. Mille Fleur and Black and Blue Mottled splits. The split thing is the same idea as with the Orpingtons.

CGG, do you have any Sussex or Coronation Sussex pullets that will be for sale? They are my favorites, but didn't think I would find any of those. Remember I said I love old fashioned looking speckled hens, especially black and white. I probably won't be having any roos because, although we have an acre, we do have neighbors that might object, so I won't be breeding. So I wouldn't be able to breed for the Lavendars:(

Can I PM or email you in a week or so for more info? Thanks
