Really? Crack when they hit the wood? - I'd think again about their diet if I were you. When my girls scratch their bedding away, the most the eggs do is get some cat-hair sized crack at the tip or something due to one egg landing on another which was already on wood. Most of the time I find these by candling them.

The hens nest when they lay, no eggs "fall"
We get lots of oyster shell out at the huge piles in South bend, and it makes great run material too.
Guess that helps the egg shells be nice & hard...

Got up at 4:30 to get ready, and open coops, ect and put in before 6 as the minus 1.0 tide would suck way below the end of the boat ramp...and it did.
Had a king tide at 1:30 PM, and another low at 7:30 so we got back out just in time..and came home to clean fish & clean up & tarp the boat for rain.
Now I am exhausted and going ny-ny

On a good note.... My Doctor faxed in my medical release to my boss today!

So I will be starting back to work on Sept 1st! So, my medical coverage will be active again starting either October 15 or November 1st!! (depends on our benefits department and how much they feel like doing their job)

I'm happy you got your job and medical insurance back! It is so stressful to be without.


My kids start school tomorrow - one new thing on the school supply list? Each kid is to bring in a ream of copy paper! The list gets longer each year; last year they added kleenex and hand sanitizer, and if your child is in a portable, you will soon be flooded with teacher requests for dixie cups and paper towels. All this on top of all the standard stuff. At this rate, next year they will be adding toilet paper. I spent nearly $300 for my 2 kids (reusing a lot from last year) and I'm still not done. I think in CA the shool districts still provide everything at the elementary school level, but my sister does have to purchase buss passes for her kids each trimester.
