I had to sew a chicken saddle today; I need to make another tomorrow after I get some sharp shears. Since my chickens free-range just about all day every day, and it rains so much over here, I wanted a weather resistant saddle. I made this of some left-over raincoat material and lined it with left-over polartec fleece from Malden Mills. The elastic straps are too long - I did not know what size to make them. I also need to buy slightly narrower elastic and wider bias tape. But for my first saddle with no pattern made just from materials I have around the house, I think this looks acceptable.

I really need to get a saddle for my Buff Ameraucana hen. She looks awful!!!

But, on the good news for today, I've got some silver and golden duckwing Araucanas hatching right now!

I hope to at least get one tufted chick, preferably rumpless. (I got a tailed one last time, however the mom to this batch is different, so if I do still get tailed birds, then that means daddy is at fault)
