I'm just so sick & tired of fires! I told DH that I'm about ready to move somewhere else.

I HATE rain but would love a few inches right now....it's supposed to be record high temps here the rest of this week...at least right now the winds are calm....and it does cool off nicely at night...but I'm a little on edge after almost losing our home two years ago and then two weeks ago and now this.

A newborn adds to the drama/pressure to make sure we make good decisions.

or you can hook a chain/tie a rope to each END of the handle if you don't want to take a chance that the handle will break when you drill it, or break when you hook it up then accidentally bump it

yes, my friends in the Hill Country in Texas are thinking/feeling much the same .... even over here on the "wet side", our grass has gone completely dry and beige/brown ... the chickens have a hard time finding much to forage on, even the plantains and dandelions are dried up and frizzled ... they've eaten almost all the berries they can reach off the Indian plum, Oregon grape, and snowberry bushes; I scrounged some of my neighbor's fallen wormy apples, and they've been having a ball picking/chasing/soccer-playing with them, all over the run ...

I hope it is not too close, better to be safe than sorry. With your little one it is hard to move very fast. I hate this time of year, even in town its dicey, neighbor 2 places over caught their chicken coop on fire when they were trying to process their last batch of roos, for Labor day BBQ.

Well, unfortunately, I was the only "member of the public" to show up for the meeting tonight, but I think my presence was helpful, AND one of the commissioners had a history of raising chickens, so he was a respected advocate. There was also another guy who stood up to the idea of six as the maximum, so it looks like they are going to allow at least eight. Plus...that's for 10,000 sq ft, and it goes up by one hen (up to 15 max) for each additional 5,000 sq ft, so I might be able to justify nine.

They haven't actually approved it yet, but they expect to do it next time, barring any strong arguments otherwise.
