The worst night of this whatever-it-is-gallopping-hootenglutis was typified by leg cramps, vertigo, and stomach misery, so it may be part of this year's Back to School Virus (my term, not an official one, but it does seem to be a predictable public health reality).

yeah, I've been nauseated and dizzy for about four days, which may mean that I'm the one that gave it to you, not vice versa

I suspect that it's one of those bugs that if you've used a shopping cart or a gas pump in the last two weeks, you've been exposed.

I catch *everything* and have since I was a little kid; the worst problems I had as an adult were when my kids started preschool and then, later, when my son was living at home and working in a multiplex. People who are too sick to go to work all too often are just exactly well enough to go to movie theaters, and the people who clean are the ones who catch things first.

sorry we can't make the Oktoberfest --- I'm still feeling punk, don't want to expose you all to this whatever-it-is

also need to save energy to deal with new-to-us dog coming tomorrow

(with luck, she will be good with chickens; reports are that she is okay with cats)

(with luck having her here will also continue to keep coyotes, possums, and other varmints away)

the invisible-fence collar didn't come in the mail today, so she will have to be 100% on the leash or confined in the house; guess who gets to do the initial training ....
woot.gif

since her previous owner said she WOULD go running off after other dogs if not fenced or restrained

so far we haven't found the "wired" transmitter for the old collars we still have; would have to go retrieve the perimeter wire, what's left of it, and re-string that, if I find the gadget --

Chris went to the wireless system because the old wire kept getting caught in the mower when he did the yard -- now I hear the best thing to do is to enclose it in plastic tubing so it is obvious ... I may use some of the old leaky hoses we have around here --

the community had asked us not to water lawns or "waste" water (it's a community well) so the hoses sat out in the sun and got rotten in spots

anyway, hope everyone has a great time at the Oktoberfest ...

I have been under alot of stress lately so that isn't helping me any. Last year was the worse for me, my daughter started kindergarden (first time around alot of kids). She went full day but 2-3 days a week (depending on the week), she was sick once a month & I caught what she had once a month. I think Dec was only time we weren't sick. I think she skipped June & July but got something beginning of Aug in her sinus. I got it & never recovered, finally her getting Strep Throat made me take her in to get tested. Since she was possitive they asked if I wanted to get tested. So I got checked out, negitive but my sinus was pushing on my ear. I hate antibiotics but with extra meds to balance me out I get through it. My daughter & I might have to see an ENT dr, hoping we don't need to have out tonsils etc out but I've heard once out we'd have less colds etc. We'll see. Hubby's job isn't doing so hot, mechanic, with not many cars coming steadily so we can't really do the spendy stuff.

Shannon, just make sure to keep eating yogurt while the both of you are on antibiotics

my chicks just love the stuff too, particularly if I sprinkle minced garlic and cayenne pepper on top

Good grief, we're a quiet bunch! I went out and shopped much, spent not a lot, bought a pair of back-up sheets on clearance at Macy's for less than the same thing would have been at Ross, and came home to some VERY DISPLEASED Hamburgs who were placated with the left-over romaine lettuce: they didn't get any vegetable goodies since Tuesday, excluding a chopped up pear that they viewed with distaste and alfafla pellets which they don't like as well as the sheep and the young Wyandottes. So no eggs for me, although Sylvia (who got lemonbalm yesterday at dusk: I ran out of time for cutting more for the young ladies).

I need to get some tubs of greens started for them for winter, don't I. Do chickens like crimson clover or fava or winter rye?

yes, we're all quiet! I'm thinking it must be the humidity - it's never like this! A couple times today when the sun was shining brightly I heard the sound of rain and the sure enough - it would rain for a few minutes and then quit again - staying sunny the whole time. Really weird day! But we got a lot accomplished in our backyard - and I got to hang out with the chickens most of the day. Mama had her chicks out and everyone was busy scratching & pecking! I'd hear a chick doing the "peep peep peep" sound extra loud like it was hurt - only to realize it had a great little worm or some other special treat and was just running away from everyone

So cute!

And while we were cleaning the backyard - I would not let DH throw out a bunch of roofing material in case anyone wanted it for a chicken coop. It's enough for a couple small coops or one really, really big coop

There may be more than one color. Free of course! Any takers?

Thanks. My daughter got the shot so she could recover faster, wish they had offered that to me...I hate the horse pills & remembering to take it. Hopefully we will go to the store tomorrow for more yogurt. I have the magic pill to keep away any itchy problem. Am finding I am getting a stomach ache though soon after taking the pill as if things are blocking up so I ate some yogurt to see if that helps. Another 7 days of 10 of this grrr. I still had a 99.4 temp, can't wait for these antibiotics to knock it out.

Rob's large fowl white pullet was Res Ch. large fowl at the WA State Fair Junior Show today. His bantam black was Ch. AOCCL. (And Rob himself is the current state champion in Intermediate Fitting and Showing- with a bantam araucana, I might add!) It was pretty funny- he blew the judge away with his description of lethal genes- I could see her eyes glazing over.. His call duck was also Ch. Waterfowl. One of the kids from our club has a Jersey Giant given to him by a top breeder. She was Best in Show. A nice day for the Spanaway Squawkers 4H Club.
