FYI - I have room to bring at least one more person along for the ride to Indy. Room for birds too. Please contact me if interested.

To me, Indy = Indianapolis...

Do we have a little better location what area it's in.

I did this yesterday with the roofing composite tiles - you'd think I'd learn!

I'm in the Seattle area - but I'm sure we could get it over to you if you'd like!

If there's no hurry - we'll just get it over with the next person going east!

CR is SOUTH ... between Chehalis and Toledo

He's south, in fact. If I go up to Seattle with my husband for his one-year surgical check-back I might be able to get it half way. I need to talk to my BIL about tanks and things, too.

have heard it is possible to turn an old microwave into an incubator, but you MUST know what you are doing, as there are electricity-storing elements inside that will zap you unless you deal with them properly

I have one out back that I may repurpose some day, unless someone else wants to take a swing at it

wine coolers, mini fridges, freezers, regular refrigerators, seem to be easier to modify

but I'd guess that it would cost more in gas to go from Ethel to almost-Snohomish-county and back; than the doggoned minifridge would be worth

The Crossroads show. Big Poultry Show, only wish I'd be attending. . . . . again.

I wish it was the weekend again

Speaking of...here are some pictures from the weekend!

Fluffy Mama!!! Amazing how much bigger she is than the chicks!

Henrietta (Deleware) has taken to being an "auntie" to the chicks...more to be close to Juno than anything. And surprisingly - Juno lets her! (You should see what she does to the other girls!)

Babies!!!

And more babies! Look at how they're growing up so fast!

PS - Candy - I'm starting to see the little tails you were saying to watch for. Did you say the early tails were girls or boys? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

just took the dog outside, and it is blowing up a williwaw ...

it's blown down three of the PVC pipes holding up the tarp canopy over the run

smart chickens, they are staying in the sturdy coop

plastic buckets and stray tarps are trying to become airborne

and Roxy-the-new-dog is fascinated by all the scents on the wind

early tails, especially if they are slightly rounded, and not absolutely straight across and stubby = generally pullets

early feathering on the wing, especially if there are two rows of feathers showing = generally pullets

later to feather out = generally cockerels

several threads on BYC about "feather sexing" -- doesn't apply to all chicks but does seem to be an indication in these hatchery EEs

Roopert was definitely slower to feather out, and he had a stubby broom-like tail when his flockmates had wild-bird-like tails that were longer and fan like

DARLING pictures, thanks so much !
