darn dogs....I threw some leftovers into one of the runs last night and Cash tore a hole in the Sussex run to eat the scraps....of course, he didn't bother any of the chickens....but they are all loose--so I have to juggle herding chickens and the baby....ughhh....I think I need to invest in electric wire around my runs.

It gets worse....Cash tore a HUGE hole in the Sumatra pen too--so one hen and the rooster were both out, wandering the yard. Then he ripped from the Sumatra into the Creve pen--so one Sumatra hen was in there with the Creves, beating the crap out of everyone and getting bred by the rooster.

Clara, the Light Sussex was out too. I did not see the Sumatra rooster breeding her but I have to assume it happened.

So now I have no purebred eggs from the Sussex or Sumatra pen for the next month at least.

I owe someone Sumatra eggs from 9/5 that I haven't shipped yet because they are all molting and I haven't gotten an egg from them in over a month.

So I might have to refund her money.

This is the second time he's done this--and DH wants to shoot him with a pellet gun...but it's always at night and we never catch him doing it.

I fed out the scraps about 5pm and then we (dogs included) went on a 2 mile walk to give the chickens time to eat. We fed the dogs as soon as we got back home and Cash finished his dinner....honestly, I don't think he got anything because the chickens cleaned it up pretty good--but he must have smelled it.

I did a really ghetto patch job on them--and ended up moving a water platform over the top of the one of the holes for now--I have a spare roll of wire but no time at the moment to measure, cut and fix it...Audrey is wide awake in her swing but at least not screaming at the moment.

Don't ya have elec fence somewhere for other critters like horses that you could just tap into.

Yeah...but I'd have to run it quite a ways...and figure out how to drive around/over/under it....but at this point it would be worth it to see him bite down on a hot wire!

You can see in these pics how far away the fence is (you can see the horse shelter in the background):

My coop does not have electricity in it but at the pole next to the round pen so I run an extension cord from there and into the coop.

I forgot how destructive young dogs can be; let this be a lesson to me et'c and so on.

Julia, I'm saving up for a solar fence-charger, myself.
